Paramount sets Ferris Bueller for 4K, plus 1923, UK’s Network ceases operations, a new Johnstown Flood restoration & much, much more
All right, we’ve got a lot of ground to cover today, including a bunch of new Blu-ray and 4K Ultra HD release news. But first, we have more new disc reviews for you as always...
Tim has taken a look at Zack Snyder’s Dawn of the Dead (2004) remake in 4K Ultra HD from Scream Factory, as well as Chester Fox and Alex Stevens’ Massage Parlor Murders (1973) in 4K UHD from Vinegar Syndrome.
Stephen has reviewed Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger’s The Red Shoes (1948) in 4K Ultra HD from Criterion.
And Stuart has offered his thoughts on Charles Barton’s Double Crossbones (1951) and Richard Goldstone and John Marks, Jr.’s No Man Is an Island (1962) both on Blu-ray from Kino Lorber Studio Classics, as well as Frank Capra’s State of the Union (1948) on Region B Blu-ray from Indicator and Powerhouse Films.
Watch for more new disc reviews tomorrow and all this week.
Now then, let’s get to that release news. We’ll start with the officially-announced titles first...
Paramount Home Entertainment has just set John Hughes’ Ferris Bueller’s Day Off (1986) for release on 4K Ultra HD on 8/1. It will include both Dolby Vision HDR and Dolby Atmos audio. In a nice surprise, extras will include Hughes’ original director’s commentary, which hasn’t been available since the 1999 DVD release. You’ll also get 5 legacy featurettes (including Getting the Class Together: The Cast of Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, The Making of Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, Who is Ferris Bueller?, The World According to Ben Stein, and Vintage Ferris Bueller: The Lost Tapes). You can see the cover art at left and also below. [Read on here...]

007 4K & American Werewolf reviewed, plus Silver Bullet, Monty Python & new announcements
Okay, I posted my review of MGM’s 007: The Daniel Craig Collection in 4K Ultra HD last night here on The Bits. It’s pretty darned good image-wise. You can read all the details in the review.
Also today, Tim has posted a review of the new An American Werewolf in London: Limited Edition Blu-ray from Arrow Video. He’s also posted a look at Severin Films’ new Killer Crocodile 1 & 2 Limited Edition Blu-ray.
And I’ve started working on a review of Warner’s incredible new 4K Ultra HD release of The Wizard of Oz. The film was scanned in 8K from the original Technicolor camera negative and I’ll tell you, it’s never looked more luminous and dimensional. For an 80-year-old film, it’s pretty stunning. So watch for that review in the next couple of days. [Read on here...]

Okay, folks… we’re closing out the week with just a little bit of release news and some new cover artwork too.
But first, I know many of you Trek fans out there have been waiting for the official word on Paramount’s new Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan - Director’s Cut Blu-ray, and I’m here to give it to you. The new BD, which streets next week (on 6/7), includes both the original theatrical cut and the long-awaited Director’s Cut in full HD, both remastered from a new 4K scan of the original film elements. And it looks fan-freaking-tastic. In fact, it’s more than fair to say that The Wrath of Khan has simply never looked better. The disc also includes all of the extras from the previous Blu-ray and DVD editions and adds a new 28-minute featurette too. Space: 1999 – S2 FINALLY coming to Blu-ray from Network in 2015, plus Bringers of Wonder!
[Editor’s Note: Be sure to like TheDigitalBits.com page on Facebook for breaking news, site updates on the go, discussion with our staff and other readers, giveaways and more!]
All right, you fans have been waiting for this for a very long time, but I’m happy to report at long last that this is official folks. Space: 1999 – The Complete Second Series is now planned by Network Distributing for release on remastered Blu-ray and DVD in Q3 of 2015 (so about this time next year). Episodes will be HD remastered in the original 1.33:1 TV aspect ratio. There will be lots of special features. Further details will be available in the months ahead. Meanwhile, for fans that can’t wait that long, Network is taking a page from CBS and releasing the second series two-part episode The Bringers of Wonder as a Blu-ray special edition on 12/8 of this year. It will only be available via the networkonair.com website and is limited to just 1,999 copies. Preorders are on now. (Note that this is a Region B release, but we’re confirming whether it will be released here in the States and who the distributor is. Possibly Lionsgate. We’ll let you know.) Of those who purchase this Blu-ray, all will be entered in a special drawing to win one of three copies of The Complete Second Series when it’s finally released. [Read on here…]
