Today’s new disc reviews here at The Bits include...

Tim’s look at Richard Fleischer’s Conan the Destroyer (1984) in 4K Ultra HD from Arrow Video, as well as Rospo Pallenberg’s Cutting Class (1989) in 4K Ultra HD from the MVD Rewind Collection.

And Stephen’s thoughts on George P. Cosmatos’ Leviathan (1989) in 4K Ultra HD from MGM via Kino Lorber Studio Classics.

In announcement news today, Warner Bros. Discovery Home Entertainment has officially set Martin Scorsese’s The Departed (2006) for 4K Ultra HD and Digital release on 4/23. The 4K disc will also be available in Steelbook packaging. Extras include the new Guilt and Betrayal: Looking into The Departed featurette, along with the legacy Stranger than Fiction: The True Story of Whitey Bulger, Southie, and The Departed and Crossing Criminal Cultures featurettes, as well as 9 deleted scene with introduction by the director. The press release doesn’t indicate it, but the packaging lists 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio. Look for HDR10 high dynamic range only. [Read on here...]

Okay, there’s not a ton of news worth reporting today here at The Bits, but we do have a few quick things for you.

As is often the case, we’ll start with some new disc reviews...

Tim has posted his thoughts on Jim Wynorski’s The Return of the Swamp Thing (1989) in 4K Ultra HD from Lightyear Entertainment. He’s also taken a look at Stuart Barge’s Julius Caesar (1970) on regular Blu-ray from Imprint Films.

And Stephen has given David O. Russell’s Amsterdam (2022) a spin on 4K Ultra HD from 20th Century Studios.

In terms of actual title announcements, Music Box Films has announced that Martika Ramirez Escobar’s Lenor Will Never Die is now available on Digital and is also coming to Blu-ray and DVD on 3/14. [Read on here...]

While we’re waiting for Warner Bros. to announce their Superman: 5-Film Collection 4K release, which we expect to happen anytime now, we’ve got some more release news for you today and a couple new disc reviews as well.

Starting with the reviews, Stephen has taken a look at Patrice Leconte’s Monsieur Hire (1989) on Blu-ray from Cohen Film Collection.

Stephen has also reviewed Dale Fabrigar’s They Crawl Beneath (2022) on Blu-ray from Well Go USA Entertainment.

Now then, back on the topic of Superman 4K for a moment, it’s starting to look as if there will not be 4K singles of the films in the new collection here in the States, but rather simply the box set in deluxe Steelbook and standard Amaray packaging (you can see the Amazon US listings here and here). There are 4K singles available in the UK if you want them (we have them linked in our 4K Ultra HD Release List here at The Bits now, but curiously not Superman: The Movie—just the sequels—which could indicate that the new remaster of Superman: The Movie may be exclusive to the box set for a while. We’ll have to wait for Warner’s official press release to be sure.

As I said, that could drop at anytime, so we’ll be sure to post all the details when it arrives. [Read on here...]

Well, I forgot that today marks the President’s Day holiday here in the States, so it’s unlikely that there will be any major studio announcements today. But we do have some good release news today and more new disc reviews for you as well...

Tim has posted his take on Narciso Ibáñez Serrador’s The House That Screamed (1970) on Blu-ray from Arrow Video.

Dennis has taken a look at Robert Townsend’s Hollywood Shuffle (1987) on Blu-ray from The Criterion Collection.

And Stuart’s offered his thoughts on Mario Monicelli’s Let’s Hope It’s a Girl (1986) on Blu-ray from Raro Video.

Now then, we’ve confirmed with Disney that the wide-release version of their Cinderella (1950) 4K Ultra HD release is coming on 8/1. And we have the official cover artwork for you, which you can see at left and also below the break. But again, this title will be available first from the Disney Movie Club starting on 3/28. We just have a couple reviews for you today, plus a few more pieces of release news to close out the week. And it’s starting to seem likely that next week could see a significant announcement or two. But we’ll get to that in a moment. First, those reviews...

Tim has posted two more new disc reviews of titles in Arrow’s great Shawscope: Volume One Blu-ray box set, including Chang Cheh’s Five Shaolin Masters (aka 5 Masters of Death, 1974) and Shaolin Temple (aka Death Chamber, 1976).

Now then, the big announcement news today is that Universal Pictures Home Entertainment has officially set Gerald Johnstone’s M3GAN for release on Blu-ray and DVD on 3/21, with the Digital release expected on 2/24. Unfortunately, there will not be a physical 4K Ultra HD release, at least for now. [Read on here...]

Stephen’s looks at Valerio Zurlini’s Le Soldatesse (1965) on Blu-ray from Kino Lorber and Raro Video, Robert Siodmak’s The Devil Strikes at Night (1957) on Blu-ray from Kino Classics, and Matt Reeves’ Cloverfield: 15th Anniversary Limited Edition in 4K Ultra HD Steelbook from Paramount.

And our old friend Dr. Adam Jahnke and yours truly have taken a look at John Sturges’ classic Western, The Magnificent Seven (1960), coming soon on 4K Ultra HD from Shout! Factory.

Well! Only a few days after sharing your first look at the cover artwork for Paramount’s forthcoming 4K Ultra HD releases of the Star Trek: The Next Generation feature films, we’ve got another piece of Star Trek 4K news to share with you, but this time on the TV front…

Paramount has just officially set Star Trek: Strange New Worlds – Season One for 4K Ultra HD Steelbook release on 5/16!

Keep in mind, Season One of the series is already set to street on Blu-ray and DVD on 3/21. That Blu-ray release is expected to include over 90 minutes of special features.

Among them will be a trio of documentary featurettes (Pike’s Peak, World Building, and Exploring New Worlds), audio commentary on the pilot episode by Anson Mount and Akiva Goldsman, deleted scenes, and a gag reel. [Read on here...]

All right, we’ve got a LOT of ground to cover today for you 4K Ultra HD catalog fans, especially those of you who like new cover artwork (because we’ve got a bunch for it for you). But first as always, we’ve got a couple more new disc reviews for you to check out...

First, Dennis has checked out Sidney Lanfield’s Sorrowful Jones (1949) on Blu-ray from Kino Lorber Studio Classics.

Tim has also reviewed Rafael Romero Marchent’s Santo vs Dr. Death (1973) on Blu-ray from Vinegar Syndrome.

Now then, let’s get to come 4K catalog news. We’ll start with a quickie: Our friends at Kino Lorber Studio Classics have confirmed over the weekend that they’re working on a 4K UHD release of Stephen King’s Cujo (1983), as directed by Lewis Teague. As usual, look for the new master to include a Dolby Vision HDR grade.

Any Star Trek fans in the house? Well, we have your first look at the 4K Ultra HD cover artwork for Paramount’s forthcoming Star Trek: The Next Generation catalog films: Generations (1994), First Contact (1996), Insurrection (1998), and Nemesis (2002). [Read on here...]

Dennis has turned in his thoughts on Ol Parker’s Ticket to Paradise (2022), which is new on Blu-ray from Universal. The film stars Julia Roberts and George Clooney.

And Stephen has delivered a look at Ted Kotcheff’s North Dallas Forty (1979) on Blu-ray from our friends down under at Imprint and Via Vision.

All right, sorry for the lack of an update over the last couple of days. We’ve been very busy here at the site, working on reviews, preparing for some big upcoming reviews, and finishing a few more site upgrades. But the major reason is that there’s a ton of breaking and evolving release news to cover, and getting to the bottom of it all—collating all the details, checking in with sources, confirming key pieces of release information—takes a huge amount of time. But I’m always up for a challenge.

Before we get to that, however, let’s share those disc reviews we’ve been working on over the past few days...

First up, I’ve posted my thoughts on John Milius’ Red Dawn (1984) from Shout! Factory and also Colin Trevorrow’s Jurassic World: Dominion (2022) from Universal, both in 4K Ultra HD.

Tim has delivered a look at Joel Schumacher’s Flatliners (1990) in 4K UHD from Arrow Video, as well as John Carpenter’s Escape from New York (1981) in 4K from Scream Factory.

Dennis has reviewed a number of regular Blu-ray titles in the last few days, including Lon Chaney: Before the Thousand Faces – Volume 2 from Undercrank Productions, Josh and Benny Safdie’s Daddy Longlegs (2009) from Criterion, and Jack Gold’s The Tenth Man (1988) and Ken Hughes’s The Trials of Oscar Wilde (1960) from Kino Lorber Studio Classics.

And finally, Stephen has delivered in-depth looks at Paul W.S. Anderson’s Event Horizon (1997)—a Steelbook release that’s getting hard to find here in the States—and Jeff Fowler’s Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (2022) both in 4K Ultra HD from Paramount, along with Michael Findlay’s Shriek of the Mutilated (1974) on Blu-ray from American Films via Vinegar Syndrome.
