The big news today is that Warner Bros. Discovery Home Entertainment has just set M. Night Shayamalan’s Trap (2024) for release on Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K Ultra HD on 11/5, with the Digital release expected on 8/30. Extras on the 4K will include 2 featurettes (Setting the Trap: A New M. Night Shayamalan Experience and Saleka as Lady Raven), as well as 3 deleted scenes, and an extended concert scene. The press release doesn’t indicate the A/V specs, but it’s reasonable to expect Dolby Atmos audio and HDR10 high dynamic range.

Here’s something pretty terrific: Severin Films has just a 13-disc All the Haunts Be Ours: A Compendium of Folk Horror – Volume Two box set for release on 11/12. The set includes 24 international folks horror classics, with 55+ hours of extras, and a 252-page hardcover of new folk horror fiction. [Read on here...]

Stephen’s look at Jonathan Demme’s Last Embrace (1979) in 4K Ultra HD from Vinegar Syndrome’s excellent Cinématographe line, as well as John Waters’ Cry-Baby (1990) in 4K Ultra HD from Kino Lorber Studio Classics.

Stuart’s reviews of Andrzej Żuławski’s L’important c’est d’Aimer... (1975) on Blu-ray from Film Movement via Vinegar Syndrome, along with John Guillermin’s The Whole Truth (1958) on Blu-ray from Powerhouse Films’ Indicator label.

And Dennis’ take on Boaz Yakin’s Fresh (1994) on Blu-ray from Via Vision’s Imprint Films.

Now then, there’s some exciting release news for us to share with you today, but first we want to take a moment to clear up some confusion: The Warner Archive Collection is still the Warner Archive Collection!

Many of you have probably seen that their Facebook page was suddenly rebranded as Warner Classics (click here for the link). But rest assured, the Warner Archive Collection remains! Warner is simply trying to unite all of its “classic film” marketing activity in one social media space. So while the Warner Archive Collection remains the core of this page, you’ll also learn here about forthcoming classic film releases on Blu-ray and 4K UHD from the studio proper, as well as theatrical screening activity, and the like. So everyone can relax—Warner Archive has not disappeared!

In fact, Warner Archive has just shared some excellent release news: The Looney Tunes Collector’s Choice: Volume 4 Blu-ray is officially coming on 11/26! You can see their official Facebook post here. Details of the actual shorts the set will include are yet to be announced, but the release is definitely now in production. Great news indeed! We’ve got quite a lot of ground to cover today to being the new week here at The Bits—there’s lots of news and announcements to report!

Stuart has also offered his take on Keith Maitland’s Dear Mr. Brody (2021) on DVD from Greenwich Entertainment via Kino Lorber.

And finally, Stephen has done a deep dive into Arrow Video’s Twisting the Knife: Four Films by Claude Chabrol on Blu-ray, which features The Swindle (1997), The Color of Lies (1999), Nightcap (2000), and The Flower of Evil (2003).

And Tim has posted his review of John Schlesinger’s Marathon Man (1976) in 4K Ultra HD from KL Studio Classics, as well as Norman Taurog’s Blue Hawaii (1961) on 4K Ultra HD from Paramount, and two more films on Blu-ray from Arrow Video’s excellent Shawscope: Volume One box set—Lau Kar-leung’s Challenge of the Masters (1976) and Executioners of Shaolin (1977). In announcement news today, Imprint Films has revealed that they’re announcing their July Blu-ray slate on Friday. Our intel suggests three Blu-ray box sets, two featuring filmmakers Walter Hill and Sidney J. Furie, along with another that looks at several films starring actor Gene Hackman. We’ll let Imprint announce the specific films officially and then bring you the news here when they do. [Read on here...]

We’re closing out the week with some new Blu-ray and 4K title announcements and a few updates on 4K titles we’ve mentioned here at The Bits previously.

In terms of official announcements, Disney and Searchlight Pictures have set Sam Mendes’ Empire of Light for release on Blu-ray and DVD on 2/21, with the 4K Digital release expected on 2/7. Extras will include the Creating the Empire of Light featurette. You can see the cover artwork at left.

Lionsgate has set Brett Donowho’s western The Old Way, starring Nicholas Cage, for Blu-ray, DVD, and Digital release on 2/21.

And Film Movement will release Mario Martone’s The King of Laughter on DVD and Digital on 2/14.

Also, Warner Bros. Discovery Home Entertainment has set their new animated Duck Dodgers: The Complete Series for release on Blu-ray on 3/28. [Read on here...]
