Thursday brings two more new disc reviews, and more release news—this time including some pretty great catalog 4K titles for Hitchcock fans.

First, Stephen has taken a look at Ruggero Deodato’s House on the Edge of the Park (1980) on Blu-ray from Severin Films.

And Dennis has turned in his thoughts on Michael Anderson’s Shake Hands with the Devil (1959), which stars James Cagney. The film is now available on Blu-ray from Kino Lorber Studio Classics.

A quick note: We’ve just gotten our hands on Sony’s new Ghostbusters Ultimate Collection 4K set and Tim is neck deep in work on an in-depth review. So watch for that coming soon here at The Bits.

Now then, in 4K Ultra HD catalog news, Spanish retail sources are indicating that Universal is planning another big wave of Alfred Hitchcock titles for release in 4K UHD this year. [Read on here...]

This batch is expected to include Saboteur (1942), Shadow of a Doubt (1943), Marnie (1964), The Trouble with Harry (1955), To Catch a Thief (1955), and Family Plot (1976). Remastering on all on all of them is apparently complete. Note that To Catch a Thief is a Paramount title here in the States, so expect it to come from them on their own schedule. The others would seem likely to be released as an Alfred Hitchcock Classics Collection: Volume 2 box set by Universal here in the States, but we’ll have to wait and see.

By the way, you can also add Smokin’ Aces (2006) to the list of catalog titles that Universal is apparently preparing for 4K this year.

One more Paramount note: You’ll recall that we mentioned last week that Brian De Palma’s The Untouchables had just become available for purchase in 4K digitally, and that the film celebrates its 35th anniversary on 6/3, so a physical 4K UHD release is likely around that time. Indeed, retail sources are now suggesting that the anticipated street date is 5/31. We would expect an official announcement to happen sometime in the weeks ahead.

Also, RLJE Films has made the sci-fi film Settlers official for Blu-ray and DVD on 2/15. As we mentioned a couple weeks ago, it’s also being released on 4K Ultra HD in Germany by Koch Media (re-titled Life in Space).

And the Target website has just confirmed that Shout! Factory will release Moustapha Akkad’s The Message (1976) on 4K Ultra HD on 3/29. We expect Lion of the Desert (1981) on 4K UHD from Shout! that same day. Watch for both of them to be revealed by the company soon.

That’s all for now. Stay tuned...
