Yesterday marked the tragic passing of Wes Craven, who was diagnosed with brain cancer and passed away at the age of 76.

Since this man and his work affected many of us and was tied to me personally and what I do here at The Bits, I felt compelled to share my bit of history with Wes Craven and maybe get across more firmly why he was such an influence on all of us. [Read on here...]

In this week’s installment of Pick-Ups, we’re going to catch up on some more recent Scream titles on Blu-ray.

It should go without saying that we’re big fans of Scream Factory here at The Digital Bits. It’s terrific that they seem to have helped generate more interest in not just big horror titles, like They Live and Halloween, but also horror movies that tend to have been forgotten over the years. We also appreciate when they debut obscure horror movies that haven’t had a release on Blu-ray before, let alone DVD. Their efforts also encourage other companies to dig deeper for similar titles. More announcement news today...

Lionsgate has announced the Blu-ray release of the remastered Like Water for Chocolate on 8/19. Lionsgate has also set Angriest Man in Brooklyn for Blu-ray, DVD and digital release on 7/22, along with Mumfie’s Quest: The Movie for DVD only. In August, look for Deadbeat on DVD on 8/26. And in September, Words and Pictures will arrive on Blu-ray, DVD and digital on 9/9. [Read on here…]

Okay... just a quick update today. I dropped my cell phone this weekend and cracked the screen. Naturally, I didn’t buy the insurance since Verizon talked me into buying the fancy indestructible case. So anyway, it’s meant a couple days scrambling while I try to get it fixed.

Welcome to Dailies, a column dedicated to bringing you both the obscure and the mainstream on DVD and Blu-ray. Being that a lot of us seem to have such a large appetite for varying film genres, this column will cover virtually everything I can get my grubby little paws on.
