We start today with another Pick-Ups/Scream Factory BD review for you today from our own Tim Salmons: Blood and Lace. Be sure to check it out.

The big release news today is that Warner has just officially set Mad Max: Fury Road for 4K UHD release on 3/1 (SRP $44.95, but the Amazon price is just $29.99). It appears the disc will include the same special features from the previous Blu-ray version. The UHD will also include a Blu-ray copy as well as Digital HD. Tim kicks things off this afternoon with another of his Pick-Ups Blu-ray reviews. This time he’s checking out Scream Factory’s recent double feature release of The Dungeonmaster and The Eliminators. Do give it a look.

In announcement news today, Universal has just officially set Krampus for release on Blu-ray and DVD on 4/26, with the digital HD release due on 4/12. Both disc versions will include audio commentary with director/co-writer Michael Dougherty and co-writers Todd Casey, and Zach Shields, an alternate ending, deleted and extended scenes, a gag reel, image galleries, and The Naughty Ones: Meet the Cast featurette. To this, the Blu-ray will exclusively add 5 additional featurettes (including Krampus and His Minions, Practical Danger, Inside the Snowglobe: Production Design, Behind the Scenes at Weta Workshop: Krampus, and Dougherty’s Vision). We’re kicking things off today with a new Pick-Ups column from our own Tim Salmons, featuring a review of Scream Factory’s new The Serpent and the Rainbow: Collector’s Edition Blu-ray. It’s well worth your time – both the review and the title itself – so do check it out.

In announcement news today, Paramount has just revealed that it’s re-releasing Top Gun in a new 30th Anniversary Limited Edition Blu-ray on 5/3 (SRP $14.99). There’s no new content in the set, but all the previous content will be included, along with a DVD copy of the film, and you Steelbook fans will be glad to learn that it comes packaged in a new Steelbook case that you can see below.  [Read on here…]

The Weinstein Company, Starz and Anchor Bay have officially set Quentin Tarantino’s The Hateful Eight for Blu-ray and DVD release on 3/29 (SRP $39.99 and $29.98). The digital HD release is due on 3/15. Running time is 168 minutes (the Theatrical Cut only), aspect ratio is 2.76:1, and audio is 5.1 DTS HD-MA. Note that the Blu-ray includes only 2 featurettes by way of extras (Beyond the Eight: A Behind-the-Scenes Look and Sam Jackson’s Guide to Glorious 70mm). This, plus the fact that the 187-minute Roadshow Version is not included, suggests a more elaborate Blu-ray release is already planned for later this year. Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has just announced that Concussion will be released day and date on 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray on 3/29, along with regular Blu-ray, DVD, and digital. The 4K UHD will include 4K resolution, HDR, Dolby Atmos (compatible with 7.1 Dolby TrueHD) and the film and special features on Blu-ray as well. Those Blu-ray features will include 9 deleted scenes, audio commentary with director Peter Landesman, and 2 featurettes (Crafting Concussion and Inside the True Story).
