By the way, speaking of 4K and Sony, Sony Electronics has just announced today that its newest 4K Ultra HD Premium displays, the XBR-X850D and the XBR-X930D/XBR-X940D series, are available now for presale and will be available in stores in March. They include the following models:
- XBR-55X850D, 55” class (54.6” diagonal), $2,499.99 MSRP
- XBR-65X850D, 65” class (64.5” diagonal), $3,499.99 MSRP
- XBR-75X850D, 75” class (74.5” diagonal), $4,999.99 MSRP
- XBR-85X850D, 85” class (84.6” diagonal), $9,999.99 MSRP
- XBR-55X930D, 55” class (54.6” diagonal), $3,299.99 MSRP
- XBR-65X930D, 65” class (64.5” diagonal), $4,999.99 MSRP
- XBR-75X940D, 75” class (74.5” diagonal), $7,999.99 MSRP
All will be compatible with 4K HDR content available from Amazon Video and Netflix, and of course Ultra HD Blu-ray (Sony hasn’t yet announced its own 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray player, but one is expected later in 2016). Also available “later this spring will be the 32W600D, 40W650D, and 48W650D series of 32” to 48” class HDTV. Back to release news, Paramount has just officially set Adam McKay’s The Big Short for Blu-ray Combo, DVD, and digital release on 3/15. Extras on the Blu-ray will include deleted scenes, and 5 featurettes (including In the Trenches: Casting, The Big Leap: Adam McKay, Unlikely Heroes: The Characters of The Big Short, The House of Cards: The Rise of the Fall, and Getting Real: Recreating an Era).
Meanwhile, 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment has just set Brooklyn for Blu-ray and DVD on 3/15, with the digital release due on 2/23. Extras on the Blu-ray will include audio commentary by director John Crowley, 11 deleted and extended scenes, 6 featurettes (The Story, Home, Love, Cast, The Making of Brooklyn, and Book to Screen), and a photo gallery.
Lionsgate has set Misconduct for release on Blu-ray and DVD on 4/19. Lionsgate has also set Grace and Frankie: Season One for DVD and digital release on 4/12. Extras will include audio commentary on two episodes, a gag reel, the Beginning of the End featurette and a preview of Season Two.
Starz and Anchor Bay will release Tumbledown on Blu-ray and DVD on 4/5.
Universal has set Kindergarten Cop 2 for DVD, and digital HD release on 5/17. The film stars Dolph Lundgren.
Scream Factory has officially set Cherry Falls for Blu-ray release on 3/29. Extras will include audio commentary with director Geoffrey Wright, the new Lose it or Die: The Untold Story of Cherry Falls and Cherry Falls Deputy Mina featurettes, vintage interviews (with Brittany Murphy, Michael Biehn, Jay Mohr and director Geoffrey Wright), behind-the-scenes footage, and the script via BD-Rom.
And Cinedigm will release Punk’s Dead: SLC Punk 2 on DVD and digital on 3/8.
