We may have mentioned this before, but Second Sight in the UK has announced that they’re doing new 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray editions of Erik Skjoldbjærg’s original Insomnia (1997) and Sean Byrne’s The Devil’s Candy (2015). Look for both on 5/25.
The 1997 Insomnia was obviously the inspiration for Christopher Nolan’s 2002 remake of the same name from Warner Bros.—a film which the director seems since to have disavowed. (The fact that it’s not available in 4K Ultra HD seems odd, and frankly probably not an accident, though I wish it were otherwise.)
While we’re talking Warner, they’ll release Maggie Gyllenhaal's The Bride! (2026) on Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K Ultra HD on 5/19.
And it should come as no surprise that the studio’s planned 4K catalog releases of Chuck Russell’s Eraser (1996) and Tim Burton’s Mars Attacks! (1996)—street dates still officially TBA but likely due in June/July—will be available in wide release 4K, 4K Steelbook, and UK-only Collector’s Edition versions with nicer packaging and swag.
Neon has now set Baz Luhrman’s Epic: Elvis Presley in Concert (2026) for release on Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K Ultra HD on 6/16.
Sony is releasing Mamoru Hosoda’s anime fantasy Scarlet (2025) in Blu-ray and 4K UHD Steelbook on 5/19.
Magnolia and Magnet is releasing Nicolas Winding Refn’s The Pusher Trilogy (1996-2005) in 4K Ultra HD on 5/5.
Universal has set Ron Howard's Parenthood (1989) for 4K release on 5/26. Gotta say: I really wish Universal would release more titles like George Nolfi’s The Adjustment Bureau (2011) or Alfonso Cuarón’s Children of Men (2006) in 4K Ultra HD. Just a suggestion, Uni!
Meanwhile, Powerhouse’s Indicator Films label is releasing standard 4K editions of Jean Rollin’s The Demoniacs (1974) and The Nude Vampire (1970) on 5/19 and 6/23, respectively.
And finally, Vinegar Syndrome is releasing John Alan Schwartz’s original Faces of Death (1978) documentary, Enzo Milioni’s Escape from Death (1989), and John Cardos’ Night Shadows (1984) in 4K on 5/26 (the latter a regular edition).
Now then… Hollywood’s annual CinemaCon convention is happening this week in Las Vegas, so expect all kinds of upcoming movie news, content leaks, and probably new trailers to drop online this week. And given that seemingly every social media movie news influencer is likely in attendance (you know, the kind of people who routinely share AI-generated YouTube video thumbnails of Kathleen Kennedy with tears streaming down her face), this is just a gentle reminder to take at least some of it with a grain of salt. LOL.
Carry on, folks!
And stay tuned… ;)
