Finally today, I wanted to take a moment to acknowledge the passing of author Harper Lee, who died this morning in Alabama at the age of 89. Lee, of course, was the writer of the 1960 Pulitzer Prize-winning novel To Kill a Mockingbird, which was later made into the terrific Universal feature film of the same name starring Gregory Peck. Mockingbird is one of those books that it seems every American child is made to read in grade school, and it’s one of the few that really stuck with me over the years. It was certainly my first favorite American novel. Forget all of this silly recent business with the its-not-really-a-sequel Go Set a Watchman. Atticus Finch has always reminded me a lot of my own grandfather. Both men – one real, one fictional – possessed a kind of quiet, principled wisdom that guides me still. You can read more on Lee’s passing here at The New York Times.
We’ll leave you with a look at a little more new Blu-ray cover artwork, with clickable Amazon.com pre-order links if available...
Have a great weekend. Stay tuned...
