Stephen’s look at Helmut Herbst’s psychedelic animated film The Cathedral of New Emotions (2006) on Blu-ray from Deaf Crocodile Films.

Stuart’s review take on Herbert Ross’s Play it Again, Sam (1972) on Blu-ray from Paramount via Kino Lorber Studio Classics.

And Dennis’ thoughts on Jean Negulesco’s Humoresque (1946) on Blu-ray from the Warner Archive Collection.

Now then... the big release news today is that Lionsgate has officially set Mel Gibson’s Flight Risk (2025) for Blu-ray, DVD, 4K UHD, and 4K Steelbook on 4/1. Look for the 4K to include HDR10 high dynamic range and Dolby Atmos audio. Extras on all SKUs will include the Risk Management: Making Flight Risk featurette and the film’s theatrical trailer. Stephen’s look at David Fincher’s The Social Network (2010), as newly upgraded to stand-alone 4K UHD Steelbook with Dolby Vision HDR by Sony Pictures Home Entertainment.

And Stuart’s thoughts on Brunello Rondi’s Riot in a Woman’s Prison (1974) on Blu-ray from Raro Video via Kino Lorber, as well as Maurice Cloche’s Monsieur Vincent (1947) on Blu-ray from StudioCanal and Kino Classics.

In terms of announcement news, the big item today is that our friends at The Criterion Collection have just revealed their May slate of Blu-ray and 4K titles, which is set to include Norman Jewison’s In the Heat of the Night (1967) (Spine #959 – 4K UHD + Blu-ray) and Jacques Demy’s The Umbrellas of Cherbourg (1964) (Spine #716 – 4K UHD + Blu-ray) on 5/6, Abbas Kiarostami’s The Wind Will Carry Us (1999) (Spine #1261 – Blu-ray) on 5/13, Bruce Robinson’s Withnail and I (1987) (Spine #119 – 4K UHD + Blu-ray) and How to Get Ahead in Advertising (1989) (Spine #120 – Blu-ray) on 5/20, and a double feature of Richard Lester’s The Three Musketeers (1973) and The Four Musketeers (1974) (Spine #1263 – 4K UHD + Blu-ray and Blu-ray), as well as Charles Burnett’s Killer of Sheep (1978) (Spine #1262 – 4K UHD + Blu-ray and Blu-ray) on 5/27. Morning folks! We’ve got some great release news for you today! And unfortunately, my neighborhood here in SoCal is experiencing some kind of major power disruption (I’m looking at like 20 utility tricks outside my office window right now) or I’d have had this up for you all last night.

First, some new disc reviews, as always…

Stuart has taken an in-depth look at Imprint’s excellent new Blu-ray box set of the classic British sci-fi TV series The Prisoner: The Complete Series (1967-1968). In short: It’s excellent. Do give it a look.

Also, our new team member Sam Cohen has reviewed Peter Hyams’ Narrow Margin (1990) in 4K Ultra HD from Kino Lorber Studio Classics.

And Dennis has turned in his thoughts on Tibor Takács’ Sabotage (1996) on Blu-ray from the MVD Rewind Collection!

And more reviews are on the way this week, including (but not limited to) Furiosa and Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes in 4K, so be sure to watch for those soon.

First up though, Tim Salmons has turned in a new Pick-Ups column with his thoughts on Frank Kenenlotter’s Basket Case 2, newly released on Blu-ray Disc by our friends at Synapse Films. Do give it a look.

In announcement news today, Uncork’d Entertainment has set Marty Langford’s Doomed! The Untold Story of Roger Corman’s Fantastic Four documentary for DVD release on 12/20, with a digital release expected on 10/11.  [Read on here…]

We’ve just posted an in-depth review of Scream Factory’s new Mad Max: Collector’s Edition, set to be released on Blu-ray on 5/5. Our own Tim Salmons’ has given the new edition a good going over for you all. The A/V quality is marginally different than the previous MGM Blu-ray (not really better or worse overall – just different), but the new extras are pretty terrific. It’s well worth a look, especially if you haven’t purchased the film on Blu-ray before. Those of you with the existing MGM BD release might have a tougher decision to make, but at $14 it’s not like buying the new edition and keeping both is going to break the bank. Anyway, enjoy the review!
