All right, today’s Hell Plaza Oktoberfest review for the day from Dr. Jahnke is none other than Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers on Blu-ray from the Halloween: The Complete Collection box set. Watch for more reviews all next week.

The big announcement news today is that Disney has officially set Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy for Blu-ray 3D Combo, Blu-ray Combo and DVD release on 12/9, with a digital release on 11/18. Extras on the Blu-ray versions are still vague based on the studio’s press release, but will include deleted scenes, audio commentary with the filmmakers, a number of “making of” featurettes, a gag reel, and an exclusive look at Marvel’s The Avengers: Age of Ultron. In announcement news today, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment and CBS Films have set What If for Blu-ray, DVD and digital release on 11/15. The film stars Daniel Radcliffe. Extras on the Blu-ray only include 3 deleted scenes and 4 featurettes (Blurred Lines, Opposites Attract, Behind the Scenes of What If, and A Modern Love Story).  [Read on here…]

Today’s update is a quick one, as I was up pretty late working on Bits-related stuff for the site.

BUT... we’re very pleased today to kick off Dr. Jahnke’s annual Hell Plaza Oktoberfest here at The Bits! As you longtime readers know, each year in the month of October, Adam posts a new Halloween-themed Blu-ray or DVD review daily here at the site and this year is no exception. Adam kicks things off this year by continuing to review the individual films in Anchor Bay and Scream Factory’s new Halloween: The Complete Collection box set. Okay – how’s your Saturday going? The Bits crew has been down at San Diego Comic-Con the last couple days checking out all the BD-related stuff going on and we’re going to have a full report for you on Monday morning wrapping up all the details. There weren’t a ton of major announcements, and there was no sign of Abyss, True Lies, or The X-Files (though we will have updated information on those titles for you), but Shout! and Scream Factory certainly announced some impressive titles. We have posted a little bit of news on The Bits Facebook page, so be sure to check that out now if you’re interested.

All right, some quick news updates today...

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has set the CG-animated film Appleseed Alpha for Blu-ray, DVD and digital release on 7/22. The discs includes audio commentary with the filmmakers and an 11-part “making of” documentary.

PBS Distribution is releasing the British sitcom Vicious, starring Sir Ian McKellen and Derek Jacobi, on DVD on 7/8. [Read on here…]

Our very own Dr. Adam Jahnke has weighed today on a topic near and dear to many of you. His latest installment of An Honor to Be Nominated in Jahnke’s Electric Theatre looks back at this little 1977 space fantasy adventure that some of you might have heard of. I’ll let him tell you about it.

Also today, Tim reviews another great Blu-ray release from Shout! and Scream Factory, circa 1983... Sleepaway Camp! Enjoy.

The first bit of big news today is that StarVista Entertainment and Time Life have officially announced The Wonder Years: The Complete Series on DVD. The 26-disc set will come packaged in a replica of a high school locker and will include a specially-designed yearbook, magnets, cast and crew liner notes and more.
