Good afternoon, Bits readers. Hope you guys here in the States all had a find long Labor day weekend. And for the rest of you, a properly tolerable Monday.

Because of the holiday, today’s post is a little light on news and columns. Though our own Russell Hammond has once again posted the weekly update of the Release Dates & Artwork section, featuring all the latest Blu-ray and DVD cover artwork, as well as Amazon.com pre-order links.  [Read on here…]

So… have any of you guys seen Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy yet? I can’t say that I have, but Dr. Jahnke, Tim Salmons and a number of other Bits staffers took the ride this past weekend and say the film is pretty darned terrific. We’re getting that report from lots of Bits readers too. So if you want a great and fun summer blockbuster that’s good for adults, but that you can take the kids to as well, it sounds like this is the one. I’ll be going in the next couple days.

Here at The Bits today, our very own Dr. Adam Jahnke is holding court at some length on the subject of CBS’ new Twin Peaks: The Entire Mystery Blu-ray release. You will be quite pleased to hear that it’s a darn fine cup of coffee, with a pretty good slice of cherry pie on the side. We posted the Blu-ray pre-order and temp artwork yesterday, along with word that the set carried an SRP of $269.97 (actual Amazon price = $188.98). Now we’ve learned that the DVD set is also available for pre-order today, with an SRP of $199.70 (actual Amazon price = $139.79). First though, here at The Bits our own Todd Doogan has turned in a new Doogan’s Queue/Gripe Soda column running down this week’s latest releases on Blu-ray and DVD. Doogan has also reviewed a new DVD only movie release from MPI – Raze. Do give it a look.

We’ve got a bunch of stuff to go over today to finish off the week...

First up, though, go see Godzilla this weekend if you get the chance. It’s a pretty good film. It’s not perfect, but director Gareth Edwards definitely gets the Godzilla mystique and he’s crafted an interesting and entertaining film. By the way, when you go, you might also get a look at the new trailer for Christopher Nolan’s forthcoming Interstellar, which I’m cautiously getting excited about.
