We’ve got several new disc reviews for all of you to enjoy today, including...

Tim’s thoughts on the new Bill & Ted’s Most Triumphant Trilogy in 4K Ultra HD from Shout! Studios, which includes Stephen Herek’s Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure (1989), Peter Hewitt’s Bill & Ted’s Bogus Journey (1991), and Dean Parisot’s Bill & Ted Face the Music (2020). Tim has also taken a look at Enzo G. Castellari’s High Crime (1973) in 4K UHD from Blue Underground.

Dennis’ thoughts on George McCowan’s Frogs (1972) on Blu-ray from Kino Lorber Studio Classics.

Stephen’s take on Howard Hawks’ Red Line 7000 (1965) on Blu-ray from Arrow Video.

And finally, Stuart’s look at Imprint Films’ Film Focus: Kim Novak Blu-ray box set, which includes Pal Joey (1957), Jeanne Eagles (1957), and Middle of the Night (1959).

We’ve also shared our weekly update of the Release Dates & Artwork section here at The Bits with all the latest Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K Ultra HD cover artwork and pre-order links, all organized (and sortable) by date and format, and complete with our Amazon Affiliate links. As always, whenever you order literally anything from Amazon after clicking to them through one of our links, you’re helping to support our work here at The Bits and we appreciate it!

In announcement news today, we’ve confirmed that Warner’s previously-revealed 4K and 4K Steelbook editions of Alfred Hitchcock’s North by Northwest (1959), Mel Brooks’ Blazing Saddles (1974), and James Cameron’s The Terminator (1984) will all officially street on 11/5. We also have the final cover artwork for the wide-release 4K of The Terminator, which I suspect was delayed by the need for James Cameron approval (and the fact that he has finally approved it is why we now have a street date). You can see the final cover artwork for all of these titles below the break, with Amazon.com pre-order links. [Read on here...]

Also today, Paramount has officially unveiled that they’re going to be releasing Michael Curtiz’s White Christmas (1954) on 4K Ultra HD on 11/5 as well. The 2-disc set will include the remastered film in 4K as well as Blu-ray in honor of the film’s 70th anniversary. (Whether or not the Blu-ray is remastered too, we have yet to confirm.) The cover artwork for that is gorgeous, and you can see it above left and also below.

Rupert Sanders’ The Crow (2024) is now available for pre-order on Amazon on Blu-ray, 4K, and Amazon-exclusive 4K Steelbook (the latter is visible below) from Lionsgate. The street date remains TBA. We’ve also learned that the film will be available Digitally on 9/13.

Eli Roth’s Borderlands (2024) is also available for pre-order on Amazon and you can see both 4K SKUs below. The street date there (for Blu-ray, 4K, and Amazon-exclusive 4K Steelbook) is now officially 10/22.

And Universal’s Las Vegas: The Complete Series is now officially available for pre-order on Blu-ray with a street date of 10/8. You can see that cover art below as well.

Finally today, we need to take a moment to acknowledge the passing of James Earl Jones. Jones was an actor of extraordinary accomplishment, whose work ranged from stage to silver screen. His first-ever film role was as Lieutenant Lothar Zogg in Stanley Kubrick’s blistering satire Dr. Strangelove in 1964. Obviously, he voiced one of cinema history’s greatest villains as Darth Vader in George Lucas’s Star Wars films. He appeared in such classics as Conan the Barbarian, Coming to America, Field of Dreams, The Hunt for Red October, Patriot Games, Clear and Present Danger, and many others. And he voiced the animated Mufasa in Disney’s animated classic The Lion King in 1994. But that doesn’t begin to cover his theatrical and TV work, which was copious as well. Jones will be long and dearly remembered. He was 93. You can read more at Variety, Deadline, and The New York Times.

That’s all for now. Stay tuned...
