Indicator’s November includes a Pryor & Wilder Blu-ray box in the UK, plus We Were Soldiers, SpongeBob, The Garfield Movie, a new Wizard of Oz 4K Steelbook & more

We’re starting today with a bunch of new and recent disc reviews here at The Bits, including...

Stephen’s look at Michael Mann’s Collateral (2004) in a new 4K Steelbook from Paramount, The Flash: The Original Series (1990) on Blu-ray from the Warner Archive Collection, and Bosco Lam and Kin-Nam Cho’s A Chinese Torture Chamber Story 1 & 2 (1994 & 1998) on Blu-ray from Vinegar Syndrome.

Tim’s thoughts on Park Chan-wook’s JSA: Joint Security Area (2000) in 4K Ultra HD from Umbrella Entertainment.

Dennis’ take on Philip Kaufman’s Twisted (2004) on Blu-ray from Paramount via Kino Lorber Studio Classics.

And finally, Stuart’s reviews of George King’s Tomorrow We Live (1943) and Barbet Schroeder’s Single White Female (1992) on Blu-ray from Powerhouse Films’ Indicator label.

Speaking of Indicator, they’ve just unveiled their November slate, which includes a UK-only box set called Pryor & Wilder that features Sidney Poitier’s Stir Crazy (1980), Arthur Hiller’s See No Evil, Hear No Evil (1989), and Maurice Phillips’ Another You (1991) on Blu-ray. Look for that on 18 November. In the US, Indicator will release Frank Launder and Sidney Gilliat’s Left Right and Centre (1959), Ken Loach’s Family Life (1971), and John Krish’s The Man Who Had Power Over Women (1970) all on Blu-ray on 11/19. We’ve learned that there are a few new Paramount 4K catalog titles coming in November, including Randall Wallace’s We Were Soldiers (2002) on 11/5, and Stephen Hillenburg and Mark Osborne’s The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie (2004), John Hughes’ Planes, Trains and Automobiles (1987), and Ridley Scott’s Gladiator (2000) on 11/12. The latter two will be 4K Steelbook packages. Here’s a glimpse of some of the cover art (click for the Amazon pre-order links)...

Also, as you can see from the cover art above, CBS, Paramount, and Nickelodeon have just announced the Blu-ray and MOD DVD release of the animated Star Trek: Prodigy – Season 2 on 11/12. The package will include a pair of featurettes (Producing Prodigy: The Legacy and The Odyssey of Prodigy).

Here’s a surprise: Warner Bros. Discovery Home Entertainment has set Victor Fleming’s The Wizard of Oz (1939) for release in a new deluxe 85th Anniversary 4K Steelbook package on 11/5. Here’s what that looks like...

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has just officially announced Mark Dindal’s The Garfield Movie (2024) for release on Blu-ray and DVD (but not physical 4K) on 8/27. Extras will include a gag reel, a deleted scenes, and a handful of featurettes.

Film Masters has set Klaus Kinski’s Creature With the Blue Hand (1967) for release on Blu-ray and DVD on 10/22. It will come with a bonus Kinski film as well: Web of the Spider (1971). Both have been scanned and remastered in 4K from original 35mm archival elements. Our friends at Ballyhoo Motion Pictures have also provided two new documentaries for this release, including A Man of Mystery: Inside the World of Edgar Wallace and Kinski Krimis: Inside the Rialto Film Adaptations.

Disney and Pixar’s Inside Out 2 (2024) is now available for Digital purchase as of today. As we’ve reported previously, the Blu-ray and 4K Ultra HD Steelbook release is expected on 9/10. Here’s the cover art (click the image to pre-order it on Amazon)...

And Well Go USA will release Jordon Prince-Wright’s Before Dawn (2024) on Blu-ray and DVD on 9/24.

Finally today, for those of you are fans of the recent Star Trek: Picard – Season Three, Lakeshore Records has just released Volume Two of Stephen Barton and Freddie Wiedmann’s soundtrack for the season. At the moment, it appears to be a Digital release only, but it’s possible that LP and CD SKUs could follow eventually.

All right, it looks like all of the new Criterion November 4K titles are finally coming available for pre-order on Amazon.com, including the new CC40 box set.
