Well, now both titles have indeed been listed on Amazon.com, with a street date of 8/22, along with another title we mentioned last Thursday: Shekhar Kapur’s Elizabeth (1998). And here’s a look at the cover artwork for all three (click on the covers to visit their respective pre-order pages)...
Also today, Severin Films has set Juan Piquer Simón’s Journey to the Center of the Earth (1977), aka Where Time Began, for release on Blu-ray on 8/29.
And Via Vision Entertainment in Australia has just announced their August slate of DVD and Blu-ray releases, which is set to include The Serpent: The Mini-Series (DVD), Redemption (DVD), Man About the House: 50th Anniversary Collection (DVD), Doctor Thorne (Blu-ray and DVD), Gamorrah: The Complete Series (DVD), Anne: The Mini-Series (DVD), and American Gangster (Blu-ray) on 8/9, followed by Northern Exposure: The Complete Series (DVD), Baa Baa Black Sheep: The Complete Series (DVD), Bonanza: The Official Twelfth Season (DVD), Chances: The Complete Collection (DVD), Ironside: The Complete Series (DVD), and The Prophecy Collection: Limited Edition (Blu-ray – includes The Prophecy, The Prophecy II, The Prophecy III: The Ascent, The Prophecy IV: Uprising, and The Prophecy V: Forsaken) on 8/23, and finally Mad Men: The Complete Series (DVD) on 8/30. All are available for pre-order here.
Finally today, we’d like to call your attention to a new boutique Blu-ray and DVD label started by Phil Hopkins, formerly (and the founder) of The Film Detective: Film Masters. Their first title is that double feature of The Giant Gila Monster (1959) and The Killer Shrews (1959) that we mentioned here at The Bits yesterday, which is coming to Blu-ray on 9/26. Other titles the company is currently working on include Beast from Haunted Cave (1959) and The Scarlet Letter (1934). The crew over at Cereal at Midnight has done a good YouTube interview with Phil and you can find that here.
All right, that’s all for this week, except to say: Don’t forget to check out the terrific 4-part documentary series Greatest Geek Year Ever! 1982, which premieres this Saturday, 7/8 at 8 PM (Pacific) on The CW. The first episode is called The Summer of Spielberg, and it should be a lot of fun! (Keep your eyes peeled for appearances by yours truly, Robert Meyer Burnett, Mark A. Altman, Scott Mantz and lots of familiar faces among the interviewees.)
Have a great weekend!
