It’s worth noting that this is one the titles KLSC licensed as part of their recent deal with Paramount. So watch for more such titles to be announced in the weeks and months ahead.
Also today, in regular Blu-ray news, we’ve learned that Paramount and CBS will be releasing The 4400: The Complete Series on Blu-ray on 7/26 (SRP $59.99). The set will include all 44 episodes on 11 discs. We don’t yet know about any extras that might be included, but it would be reasonable to assume that the previous DVD extras will carry over. The title has been released on Blu-ray internationally, but this is its first appearance on HD disc here in the States, so this comes as welcome news for fans. We don’t have cover artwork yet, but you can already pre-order the title here on Amazon.
Paramount is also releasing the comedy Reno 911! The Hunt for QAnon on Blu-ray and DVD on 7/19. One imagines that’ll be a hoot.
Paramount continues to mine their deep catalog for Blu-ray titles as well, among them Leap of Faith (1992), starring Steve Martin and Debra Winger, which will arrive on Blu-ray on 7/12.
Meanwhile, GKids (via Shout! Factory) will release Ayumu Watanabe’s 2021 anime Fortune Favors Lady Nikuko on Blu-ray on 7/19.
And finally, in streaming news, we switch back to Paramount again: Over the weekend, Paramount+ quietly upgraded their streaming version of Star Trek: First Contact to the new 4K scan with Dolby Vision HDR and it is definitely an improvement over the previous DNR-laden Blu-ray presentation. It appears that it’s only going to be on Paramount+ until the end of July, at which time it’s probably shifting to another streaming service due to a previous content licensing deal. We expect that it will return at some point though, and our best intel from industry sources is that the title is likely to arrive on physical 4K Ultra HD next year (along with the other Next Generation films), coinciding with the final season of Star Trek: Picard on Paramount+.
Meanwhile, we expect Paramount to release Star Trek V: The Final Frontier, Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country, and the Star Trek: The Motion Picture – Director’s Edition on physical 4K UHD and remastered Blu-ray in September. We would expect an official announcement on that front sometime in the next month or so.
Thanks to Bits reader Shawn B., who alerted me to the First Contact drop on Saturday!
That’s all for now. As always, stay tuned...
