An update on Zack Snyder’s Justice League, plus Saturday Night Fever in Digital 4K, Almost Famous, Raya and the Last Dragon & more
Just a quick post today, but we do have a bit of interesting release news to report.
First, we know that lots of you have been eagerly awaiting details on the Blu-ray and 4K Ultra HD release of Zack Snyder’s Justice League. Many international retail sites have—for weeks now—had it up for pre-order, set to street on or about 5/26. Indeed, we’ve had it on our 4K Ultra HD Release List here at The Bits for a few months now, anticipating a 5/25 US street date. Just today, the Australian retailer JB Hi-Fi put the title up for pre-order with the 5/26 date. (Thanks to Bits reader Tim P. for the heads-up on that one.) So, as we noted here last week, we’re pretty confident that—barring some sort of manufacturing or shipping delay—Warner Bros. Home Entertainment will be announcing it any time now for a 5/25 release in the States on both formats. It’s possible it will be released under the Warner Archive label, like Snyder’s recently 4K-remastered Batman v Superman, but we’ll have to wait and see.
Now then, these aren’t actual announcements, but we’re learned that Paramount has just made a new 4K remaster (with HDR) of Saturday Night Fever available on Kaleidescape and iTunes, so it’s possible that there could be a physical 4K release in the offing. However, the company has also recently made 48 Hours and Another 48 Hours available in Digital 4K, with only remastered Blu-rays currently set for physical release, so we’ll have to wait and see. Godzilla vs. Kong announced, plus Voyagers, The Hills Have Eyes, The Watch, The Hitcher, possible new 4K catalog remasters & more
All right, we haven’t posted a news update in a few days, because frankly there hasn’t been a ton of news to report, and also because we’ve been working on more new discs reviews. To that end we’ve recently posted...
My thoughts on Rob Reiner’s The Princess Bride, as released late last year on 4K Ultra HD by Turbine Media in Germany. The accompanying Blu-ray is locked to Region B, but the 4K disc is compatible with UHD players worldwide, and the image quality is absolutely gorgeous.
Tim’s take on Rolf de Heer’s Bad Boy Bubby (1993), which dropped back in February on region-free Blu-ray from Umbrella Entertainment.
And Dennis’ look at Richard C. Sarafian’s Eye of the Tiger (1986), coming soon on Blu-ray from Scorpion Releasing via Kino Lorber Studio Classics.
More reviews will follow next week, including my thoughts on Arrow Video’s recent UK release of Kinji Fukasaku’s Battle Royale in 4K, among others. So be sure to check back then. [Read on here...]

Warner sets Willy Wonka for 4K on 6/29, plus Prospect & Howard the Duck in 4K, I Dream of Jeannie on BD & WB Shop is back (kinda)
We’re starting the new week off today with a bunch of new disc reviews. I’ve gone on a 4K Ultra HD review spree over the last week, and have completed and posted my looks at the following titles:
Jan de Bont’s Speed in 4K from 20th Century Studios and Disney, which streets tomorrow.
Ric Roman Waugh’s Greenland in 4K, a German import disc that came out earlier this year from Tobis Film and LEONINE Distribution. (It’s worth importing if you like the film, as Universal and STX seem to have no plans as yet to release it in 4K here in the States).
Sergio Leone’s The Good, the Bad and the Ugly in 4K from Kino Lorber Studio Classics, a must-have disc which came out last week but is out of stock almost everywhere at the moment. (Rest assured, the company says more copies are on the way very soon, so do NOT pay scalper prices).
And Don Taylor’s The Final Countdown in 4K from Blue Underground, which streets on 5/25.
Meanwhile, Dennis has just offered his thoughts on Shaka King’s Judas and the Black Messiah on standard Blu-ray from Warner Bros, a disc which also streets tomorrow. [Read on here...]

His Dark Materials: Season 2 official for Blu-ray, plus G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra & G.I. Joe: Retaliation on 4K at last & more
We’ve got just another quick news update here today, as I’m diving into some long overdue work on new disc reviews...
Speaking of which, Tim has shared his thoughts on Augusto Caminito and Klaus Kinski’s Nosferatu in Venice (1988) as recently released on Blu-ray by Severin Films. You’ll find that here.
In announcement news today, Warner Bros. Home Entertainment and HBO have just set His Dark Materials: The Complete Second Season for release on Blu-ray and DVD on 6/29. The season is already available for streaming viewing on HBO Max. In addition to all 7 episodes, extras will include 11 behind-the-scenes featurettes (Noble Rogue: The Legend of Lee Scoresby (exclusive to Blu-ray and DVD), Exploring His Dark Materials: Panserbjørne, Exploring His Dark Materials: Daemons, Exploring His Dark Materials: Portals & The Multiverse, Exploring His Dark Materials: Witches, His Dark Materials: Bringing Daemons and Bears to Life, His Dark Materials: Exploring Cittàgazze, His Dark Materials: Worlds Collide, The Powerful Mrs. Coulter, Lyra, and The Subtle Knife). My Fair Lady & Super 8 4K due 5/25 from Paramount, plus Shout!/Scream’s May slate on Amazon & Wonder Woman 84 on Blu-ray 3D
There’s not a lot of release news to report today, given the President’s Day holiday here in the States, so we’re spending our time working on those new disc reviews.
But we do have a couple quick items to report for you...
First, Paramount is now expected to release both George Cukor’s My Fair Lady (1964) and J.J. Abrams’ Super 8 (2011) on 4K Ultra HD on 5/25. We have cover artwork for My Fair Lady which you can see at left. Meanwhile, both titles have just been added to Amazon.com. They aren’t yet available for pre-order, but we expect that to change shortly. For now, you can find My Fair Lady linked here and Super 8 here. We expect the official announcement to happen in the next couple of days, so be sure to stay tuned. [Read on here...]
Criterion reveals its May Blu-ray slate, plus Vinegar Syndrome’s first adult 4K title, and Scream sets Event Horizon for 3/23
All right, we’re rounding out the week today with some great release news and some new disc reviews too. First up, those reviews...
I’ve just turned in my thoughts on John Carpenter’s They Live, as recently released in 4K Ultra HD by Scream Factory. Both the UHD and included Blu-ray are mastered from the 2018 4K scan and restoration, and Scream has tossed in a new Dolby Atmos mix to boot. It’s a fine release, so don’t miss it.
I’ve also reviewed Roland Emmerich’s epic disaster flick 2012 on 4K Ultra HD from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment, and I’ve given a great little indie release a review on Blu-ray too: Dmitriy Kiselev’s Spacewalker (2017) from MPI Home Video, which tells the story of cosmonaut Alexey Leonov and humanity’s first spacewalk in 1965.
Tim’s also posted a review of William Campbell’s Ingagi (1930), recently released on Blu-ray by Kino Classics as part of their Something Weird line-up. Ingagi is definitely something weird.
And just a heads-up: We’re working on reviews of Prince of Darkness in 4K from Scream Factory, along with the new 4K releases of Spike Lee’s Do the Right Thing from Universal and Lupin the 3rd: The Castle of Cagliostro from Discotek Media, among other titles. So watch for those starting on Monday. [Read on here...]

Wonder Woman 1984 official, plus Kino Lorber’s April slate, catalog 4K updates, Zack Snyder’s Justice League & more
Today’s big news is that Warner Bros. Home Entertainment has finally officially set Patty Jenkins’ Wonder Woman 1984 for release on Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K Ultra HD on 3/30. The Digital release is expected on 3/16, with PVOD rental set for this week on 2/12.
The 4K Ultra HD release will include Dolby Vision, HDR10, and HDR10+ high dynamic range, with Dolby Atmos audio. Extras will include 8 featurettes (The Making of Wonder Woman 1984: Expanding the Wonder, Gal & Kristen: Friends Forever, Small But Mighty, Scene Study: The Open Road, Scene Study: The Mall, Gal & Krissy Having Fun, and Meet the Amazons), the Black Gold Infomercial, a Gag Reel, and a Wonder Woman 1984 Retro Remix feature.
You can see the 4K cover artwork above left and also below the break, along with the regular Blu-ray artwork. Both versions are now available for pre-order on Amazon.com. [Read on here...]

KL Studio Classics is working on Touch of Evil 4K, plus Shout!/Laika’s distribution deal, Warner’s Supernatural: The Complete Series BD & more
We’ve got a couple odds and ends for you today...
First, the big news... Shout! Factory has just reached a multi-year distribution agreement with the Portland-based Laika animation studio. The deal gives Shout! the U.S. packaged media distribution rights to the studio’s first four films: Kubo and the Two Strings (2016), The Boxtrolls (2014), ParaNorman (2012), and Coraline (2009). According to the report on The Hollywood Reporter, new bonus content is already in development for these films. Not only are new Blu-rays obviously in the offing, we can’t help thinking how great these titles would look again on Blu-ray 3D and for the first time on 4K Ultra HD as well.
Also today, Warner Bros. Home Entertainment has just announced Supernatural: The Fifteenth and Final Season and Supernatural: The Complete Series for Blu-ray and DVD release on 5/25. The Fifteenth Season set includes 2 new featurettes, deleted scenes, a gag reel, and more (SRP $49.99 for Blu-ray and $44.98 for DVD). The Complete Series set includes all 327 episodes and all the previous bonus content, plus a 68-page book (SRP $359.99 for Blu-ray and $329.99 for DVD). [Read on here...]

Warner sets Godzilla for 4K, plus Disney/Fox 4K surprises, more Universal 4K catalog & Hal Holbrook RIP
All right, we’ve got a lot of ground to cover today. But first more new disc reviews...
Dennis has taken a look at Jacob Chase’s Come Play (2020) on Blu-ray from Universal.
And Tim has given Mario Landi’s Patrick Still Lives (1980) a spin on Blu-ray from Severin Films.
Watch for more reviews in the next few days.
Now then, we’ve got BIG 4K Ultra HD news for you today, some of it official and most of it unofficial but tentatively confirmed by our various industry and retail sources. So let’s get right into it...
First up, Warner Bros. Home Entertainment has officially set Gareth Edwards’ Godzilla (2014) for release on 4K Ultra HD on 3/23. It will feature HDR10 high dynamic range with Dolby Atmos audio.
