Universal sets News of the World for 3/23, plus new Paramount catalog Blu-rays & Paramount downsizes its home entertainment marketing team
All right, sorry for the lack of an update yesterday. We’re dealing with a plumbing leak here at the house so real life occasionally finds a way to intrude on regular work. Nothing major though and well on the way to being repaired. Just an inconvenience.
We have some announcement news today and a bit of industry news as well.
First up, Universal Pictures Home Entertainment has made Paul Greengrass’ News of the World official for Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K Ultra HD release on 3/23, with the Digital release expected on 3/4. Looks like the 4K disc will include HDR10 high dynamic range and Dolby Atmos audio. Extras on will include deleted scenes, feature commentary with Greengrass, and 4 featurettes (Partners: Tom Hanks & Helena Zengel, Western Action, Paul Greengrass Makes News of the World, and The Kiowa). You can see the cover artwork at left and also below.
Meanwhile, Screen Media has set Skyfire for Blu-ray and DVD release on 4/6.
Screen Media is also expected to release The Outpost in Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K Ultra HD on 5/18. [Read on here...]

BREAKING: Paramount makes Super 8 and My Fair Lady official for 4K Ultra HD on 5/25
We’re starting things off today with this just in from Paramount Home Entertainment: George Cukor’s My Fair Lady (1964) and J.J. Abrams’ Super 8 (2011) are now official for release on the 4K Ultra HD format on 5/25.
My Fair Lady is presented in 4K, mastered from the 2015 8K film scan and restoration of the original camera negative and surviving 65 mm elements.
Both HDR10 and Dolby Vision will be included (this is now confirmed). Audio will be available in the same English 7.1 Dolby TrueHD mix found on the 2015 Blu-ray edition.
There are no extras on the 4K disc itself, but the package will include that same Blu-ray (along with a Digital code). [Read on here...]
My Fair Lady & Super 8 4K due 5/25 from Paramount, plus Shout!/Scream’s May slate on Amazon & Wonder Woman 84 on Blu-ray 3D
There’s not a lot of release news to report today, given the President’s Day holiday here in the States, so we’re spending our time working on those new disc reviews.
But we do have a couple quick items to report for you...
First, Paramount is now expected to release both George Cukor’s My Fair Lady (1964) and J.J. Abrams’ Super 8 (2011) on 4K Ultra HD on 5/25. We have cover artwork for My Fair Lady which you can see at left. Meanwhile, both titles have just been added to Amazon.com. They aren’t yet available for pre-order, but we expect that to change shortly. For now, you can find My Fair Lady linked here and Super 8 here. We expect the official announcement to happen in the next couple of days, so be sure to stay tuned. [Read on here...]

Paramount makes The Ten Commandments official for 4K, plus Harley Quinn on Blu-ray, new KL Studio Classics & more
We’re starting things off today with two more new Blu-ray reviews...
Tim has checked out Luigi Cozzi’s The Black Cat (1989) on BD from Severin Films.
And Dennis has shared his thoughts on Frank Darabont’s Buried Alive (1990) on BD from Kino Lorber Studio Classics. Enjoy!
The big announcement news today is that Paramount Home Entertainment has officially revealed the 4K Ultra HD release of Cecil B. DeMille’s The Ten Commandments (1956), staring Charlton Heston, on 3/30 just as we expected. Per the studio’s press release, the original VistaVision negative was scanned in 6K as part of the 2010 restoration effort and those files were the basis for this new Dolby Vision presentation. “In addition, Paramount spent well over 150 hours doing new color work and clean-up on the scan. The move to Dolby Vision created the opportunity to further improve the look of the film: blacks are enhanced and improvements were made to smooth out special effects mattes to create the most vibrant and pristine image possible. The 4K film presentation contains an introduction by DeMille, an intermission, an overture/exit music card, and an entr’acte card, along with a DTS-HD 5.1 lossless soundtrack.” [Read on here...]

Flintstones replacement BDs are shipping, plus a new 4K review, release news & Michael Apted RIP
Evening, folks. We’ve got a quick news update for you here today at the site.
But first, a new disc review: Tim has just posted his thoughts on William Lustig’s Vigilante (1982) on 4K Ultra HD from the good folks at Blue Underground. And it sounds like it’s a pretty terrific release if you like the film, which stars Robert Forster and Fred Williamson. Do check it out.
Also a reminder today: We posted a new History, Legacy & Showmanship column from our own Michael Coate on Friday—a piece that was delayed from the very end of 2020 due to all of the site maintenance we’ve been doing over the past several weeks. This one is a look back at the early 70mm cut of The Empire Strikes Back, featuring a new roundtable discussion with historian and soundtrack producer Mike Matessino along with director Saul Pincus. We think you’ll really enjoy it, so do give that a look here if you missed it.
Now then... there’s not a lot of release news to report today, but we do have a few things worth mentioning. [Read on here...]
