Let’s start today with Sony Pictures Home Entertainment, which has just officially set The Dark Tower for release on Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K Ultra HD on 10/31, with the Digital HD release due on 10/17. Extras on the Blu-ray versions will include deleted scenes, a blooper reel, A Look Through the Keyhole, and 5 behind-the-scenes featurettes (including Last Time Around, The World Has Moved On…, The Man in Black, The Gunslinger in Action, and Stephen King Inspirations). We’ve updated our new 4K Ultra HD Release List here at The Bits accordingly.

Note that Sony will also release Preacher: Season Two on Blu-ray and DVD on 11/14. [Read on here…]

Welcome to a new week! We’ve got a couple things for you today, but first, an important announcement...

In response to reader demand, we’ve launched a new section here at The Bits. It’s our 4K Ultra HD Release List! You can read the section introduction here, and you can find the actual list here. (In the navigation bar at the top of the website, you’ll find it listed under Columns >> Bill Hunt >> The 4K Ultra HD Release List.) You can see all of the U.S. and U.K. titles currently available and also yet to be released – both announced and rumored to be in the works based on our industry sources. (Note that an International list will be added soon for Germany, Italy, France, Japan, etc.) You can also order or pre-order each title via Amazon.com and Amazon.co.uk if links are available. We’ve also tried to include codes to indicate which releases are full native 4K, which have object-based audio options, and which have Dolby Vision. And if a title is a standout or reference quality, we’ve tried to indicate that as well. We’re going through and checking all of those codes to make sure they’re accurate (if you spot errors please let us know), and of course we’ll be regularly updating the list going forward. There are unconfirmed reports that Warner is also working on The Polar Express, Gravity, and The Matrix. Additional titles I’ve personally seen 4K Ultra HD tests of (in private meetings at CES) include The Godfather and Lawrence of Arabia, but whether they’ve been fully mastered and authored for released yet is unconfirmed.

We’ve got some great new announcements for you today. First up though, Tim has turned in a review of Dan O’Bannon’s The Resurrected on Blu-ray from our friends over at Scream Factory. It’s a fun disc, so do give it a look if you’re of a mind to. Now then...

In announcement news today, Monsieur David Lynch has, his very own bad self, announced the forthcoming Blu-ray and DVD release of Twin Peaks: The Third Season via Twitter today. Look for it on 12/5 from CBS Home Entertainment and Showtime. We expect that they’ll have cooked up some nice extras to go with that tasty slice pie, so watch for further details in the weeks ahead. You can see the cover artwork below. We’ll add the Amazon link as soon as it goes live.

Also on the TV front today, are there any Game of Thrones fans in the house? HBO has just officially set Game of Thrones: The Complete Seventh Season for release on Blu-ray and DVD on 12/12, with the Digital HD version due on 9/25. [Read on here…]

All right, this is just a quick update, as we have work happening on the server today.

But... we’ve got final details for you – and official cover artwork – on the Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K Ultra HD release of Luc Besson’s Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets from Lionsgate. (We’d listed Sony as the distributor yesterday – that’s incorrect. Sorry. Loooooong day.)

In any case, Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets will street on Blu-ray Combo, DVD, and 4K Ultra HD Combo on 11/21, as expected, with the Digital HD release due on 11/7. The 4K Ultra HD release will feature both Dolby Vision HDR – which should make it a real stunner – and also Dolby Atmos audio. [Read on here…]

Second, we’ve got a bunch of new disc reviews for you today, including my in-depth thoughts on Steven Spielberg’s E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial: 35th Anniversary Edition in 4K Ultra HD. If you’re a fan of E.T., it’s worth the upgrade. The film has simply never looked better than it does here.

Big news today, Bits readers! But first, some local business...

Our very own Tim Salmons has turned in a pair of new Blu-ray reviews, featuring Carl Reiner’s comedy classic The Man with Two Brains now available on disc from the Warner Archive, and also the ooky-gooey Italian terror of Joe D’Amato’s Beyond the Darkness from Severin Films. Do give them both a look. (But if you’re barf-sensitive, the latter might be a test of your constitution. FYI.)

Also here today, Russell Hammond has posted the weekly update of the Release Dates & Cover Artwork section, featuring all of the latest Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K Ultra HD cover art and Amazon.com pre-order links.
