We’ve got a bunch of new disc reviews to share with you today here at The Bits, including…

My tag-team review (with Tim Salmons) of John Boorman’s Arthurian epic Excalibur (1981) in a long-awaited 4K Ultra HD release from Arrow Video.

Stephen’s thoughts on Jonathan Demme’s Married to the Mob (1988), Rachel Talalay’s Tank Girl (1995), and Satoshi Kon’s Perfect Blue (1997) each in 4K Ultra HD, from Cinématographe via Vinegar Syndrome, Vinegar Syndrome, and GKIDS via Shout! Studios, respectively.

Dennis’ look at Blake Edwards’ The Pink Panther (1963) in 4K Ultra HD from Kino Lorber Studio Classics.

And finally it’s back to Tim again for his thoughts on Jim Abrahams, David Zucker, and Jerry Zucker’s Top Secret! (1984) in 4K UHD from Paramount.

More reviews are coming this week, so definitely be sure to check back for them.

Now then… we’ve got a bunch of great announcement news to cover here today as well!

We’ll start with official word that Lionsgate is distributing Quentin Tarantino’s Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair widely on Digital next week, on 2/17. In fact, you can find it available for pre-order on Apple TV right now. We’re told the Blu-ray and 4K Ultra HD physical release is coming later this year from Lionsgate.

A24 has just announced that Josh Safdie’s Best Picture-nominated film Marty Supreme (2025) is coming soon to Blu-ray and 4K Ultra HD. [Read on here...]

Each will include a 20-minute documentary, audio commentary with the director, Timothée Chalamet and Gwyneth Paltrow’s camera test with commentary, and 6 collectible postcards with behind-the-scenes photography by Atsushi Nishijima. The 4K will also include an exclusive 22-minute featurette with new interviews by production designer Jack Fisk and costume designer Miyako Bellizzi. You can see the cover art above left. The street date is TBA for March.

Here’s a nice surprise: Capelight Pictures in Germany has announced the 4K Ultra HD + Blu-ray release of Robert Wise’s West Side Story (1961) on 3/26. It’s also listed on Amazon UK here for release on 4/2. We’re inquiring with sources about a possible US release (via Amazon MGM), but the 4K disc at least should be all region.

Also listed on Amazon UK now is a pre-order for 4K Ultra HD + Blu-ray SKU of Danny Boyle’s 28 Days Later (2002). Now… this title has been rumored for a while, and I’ve been tracking the release with my sources for several months. This would obviously be upsampled, because the film was intentionally shot in low-resolution MiniDV at just 720p. However, it could still benefit from better compression and encoding, as well as HDR. In any case, the film has long been out of print, so any new SKUs would be welcome given renewed interest due to Sony’s recent sequels 28 Years Later (2025) and 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple (2026), as well as one additional installment currently planned. There’s no street date yet, but we’ll let you know when it gets announced. FYI, the distribution rights to 28 Weeks Later (2007) are currently owned by 20th Century Studios, so good luck ever getting a 4K or even a new Blu-ray of that.

Now listed on Amazon UK today as well is Chuck Russell’s Eraser (1996) in 4K Ultra HD from Warner Bros. Discovery Home Entertainment, a title we first told you about here at The Bits way back in December. But now we have a little better information. Distributor sources are suggesting a German street date of 6/15, which would put a likely US date at around 6/16.

So right now the Warner 4K catalog slate for 2026 looks like this:

  • Ben-Hur (1959) – 2/17
  • All the President’s Men (1976) – 2/17
  • Sleepers (1996) – TBA April
  • Speed Racer (2008) – TBA May
  • Eraser (1996) – TBA June 16th

Speaking of Speed Racer, we’ve learned that the new 4K DCP of the film was just shown up at the Hollywood Theatre in Portland, OR last week. And reportedly, it looked fantastic. Fingers crossed we’ll hear the official street date for the physical 4K UHD release very soon, which should tentatively drop sometime in May.

Just as a reminder: Still to be listed for 4K pre-order this year from Warner are Gravity (2013), Mars Attacks! (1994), Gone with the Wind (1939), Magnolia (1999), and possibly Green Lantern (2011)—that last one delayed from 2025 and probably timed to coincide with the streaming release of DC Studios and HBO Max’s Lanterns (2026). And it’s very likely that there are more 4K catalog titles coming this year from WBDHE yet to be revealed.

While we’re talking Warner today, the Warner Archive Collection has just unveiled a new batch of deep catalog and animated Blu-ray titles for release on 3/31, including Mark Sandrich’s The Gay Divorcee (1934), Vincente Minnelli’s Tea and Sympathy (1956), William Keighley’s The Man Who Came to Dinner (1941), Lewis Seiler’s It All Came True (1940), Jack Conway’s Honky Tonk (1941), and Hanna-Barbera’s Scooby’s All-Star Laff-A-Lympics: The Complete Series (1977-78). And of course, the Looney Tunes Collector’s Vault: Volume 2 arrives on Blu-ray on 3/24.

Universal has just announced the 4K UHD Steelbook release of Brian De Palma’s Carlito’s Way (1993) on 4/7.

Imprint Films has revealed an April “Neo-Noir” Bundle of 4K Ultra HD + Blu-ray titles, due on 4/29, which includes Ron Shelton’s Dark Blue (2002), Phil Joanou’s State of Grace (1990), and After Dark: Neo-Noir Cinema – Collection Four (1990-1997), which includes Jonathan Kaplan’s Unlawful Entry (1992) in 4K Ultra HD, as well as Blu-ray editions of Wild at Heart (1990), The Getaway (1994), Mulholland Falls (1996), Freeway (1996), and City of Industry (1997).

The British Film Institute has also revealed its new Blu-ray and 4K titles for April, May, and June. Among them are Kristen Stewart’s The Chronology of Water (2025) on Blu-ray on 4/27, Akira Kurosawa’s Red Beard (1965) on Blu-ray and William Cameron Menzies’s Invaders from Mars (1953) on Blu-ray and 4K Ultra HD on 5/11, Peter Weir’s The Cars That Ate Paris (1974) on Blu-ray and 4K Ultra HD on 5/25, Luchino Visconti’s Rocco and His Brothers (1960) in 4K Ultra HD on 6/8, James Bidgood’s Pink Narcissus (1972) on Blu-ray on 6/15, and Val Guest’s Toomorrow (1970) on Blu-ray on 6/22.

Our friends at Radiance Films are releasing Underworld Chronicles: Three Yakuza Fables by Takashi Miike in 4K Ultra HD + Blu-ray in the UK on 3/23. All three films—Fudoh: The New Generation (1996), Agitator (2001), and Deadly Outlaw: Rekka (2002) are included on Blu-ray, and Fudoh will be included in 4K UHD as well.

Cineverse is releasing Mike P. Nelson’s Silent Night, Deadly Night (2026) on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K Steelbook formats on 2/17.

Mubi has set Lynne Ramsay’s Die My Love (2025) for Blu-ray and 4K Ultra HD release on 4/21.

Well Go USA is releasing Gabriele Mainetti’s The Forbidden City (2025) on Blu-ray and 4K UHD on 4/21 as well.

And Kino Lorber Studio Classics has revealed that Brian De Palma’s Femme Fatale (2002) is coming soon to 4K Ultra HD, while Jorge Dorado’s Mindscape (2013, aka Anna) is coming soon to Blu-ray, and Edward Ludwig’s The Man Who Reclaimed His Head (1934) and Daniel Taplitz’s Nightlife (1989) are coming to Blu-ray on 4/28.

That’s all for today (and I’d say it’s quite a lot)—whew!

Back with more soon.

Stay tuned…
