All right, I want to start today by summarizing all of the new disc reviews The Bits review team has shared here in the last week or so, since my last My Two Cents news update…

Tim has shared his thoughts on Luca Guadagnino’s Suspiria (2018) in 4K Ultra HD and also Ho Meng-Hua’s The Lady Hermit (1971) on Blu-ray, both from Imprint & Via Vision, as well as Peter Medak’s Negatives (1968) on Blu-ray from Severin Films, Hanna Barbera’s Touché Turtle and Dum Dum: The Complete Series (1962-63) on Blu-ray from the Warner Archive Collection, and Chor Yuen’s Intimate Confessions of a Chinese Courtesan (1972 ) on Blu-ray from Arrow’s Shawscope: Volume Three box set.

Stuart has taken a look at José Giovanni's Boomerang (1976) and Georges Lautner’s Cop or Hood (1979) on Blu-ray from Kino Lorber Studio Classics.

Dennis has reviewed Howard Hughes and James Whale’s Hell’s Angels (1930) on Blu-ray from the Criterion Collection, Joseph Losey’s King and Country (1964) on Blu-ray from Kino Lorber Studio Classics, and Dick Richards’ Rafferty and the Gold Dust Twins (1975) on Blu-ray from the Warner Archive Collection.

And Stephen have offers his take on Ti West’s X Trilogy (X, Pearl, MaXXXine) in 4K Ultra HD from A24, John Woo’s Hard Boiled (1992) in 4K from Shout! Studios, Walter Hill’s Undisputed (2002) in 4K from Kino Lorber Studio Classics, and Timo Tjahjanto’s Nobody 2 (2005) in 4K from Universal Pictures Home Entertainment.

Now then… my apologies for not sharing a My Two Cents post here on the site yesterday. I’d fully intended to have one up, and suddenly a bunch of calls, emails, and messages came in from sources and I found myself going down a rabbit hole of chasing down some really interesting bits of industry news and title release rumors. You’ll see the result of that effort here over the next couple of weeks.

In terms of today’s news items, here’s the big one: Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment has just finally officially announced the 4K Ultra HD + Blu-ray + Digital release of the animated The Emperor’s New Groove (2000) on 12/9, just as we expected and have been reporting for a few months now. Stephen’s look at Dario Argento’s The Card Player (2004) in 4K Ultra HD from Vinegar Syndrome.

And Dennis’ thoughts on Cliff Owen’s The Wrong Arm of the Law (1963) on Blu-ray from Kino Lorber Studio Classics.

In terms of announcement news today, Lionsgate has set its own 4K Ultra HD release of George Hickenlooper, Fax Bahr, and Eleanor Coppola’s Hearts of Darkness (1991) documentary—on the making of Francis Ford Coppola’s Apocalypse Now (1979)—for release here in the States on 12/9. It will include The Making of Hearts of Darkness: A Filmmaker’s Apocalypse as a special feature. This film was recently restored in 4K by StudioCanal, and you can read my review of their 4K release here at The Bits.

Kino Lorber Studio Classics has just announced that their 4K Ultra HD release of Chris Noonan’s Babe (1995) and George Miller’s Babe: Pig in the City (1998) will officially street on 12/16. [Read on here...]

In release news today, we have an update for you on Universal’s newly-announced 4K Ultra HD release of Knight Rider: The Complete Series (1982-86), which streets on 7/22. We’ve haven’t got confirmation yet on whether all the original broadcast music will be properly sorted (though Turbine’s 2023 Blu-ray review did have it sorted, so it’s reasonable to assume that it will be—you can review our review of that set here). But we have confirmed that the set will include HDR10 high dynamic range, and that in addition to the legacy special features, the set will include two newly-produced extras as well. Tim’s look at Robert S. Baker and Monty Berman’s Jack the Ripper (1959) in 4K Ultra HD from Severin Films.

Stuart’s thoughts on the Audie Murphy Collection IV Blu-ray box set from Kino Lorber Studio Classics, which includes the films Kurt Neumann’s The Kid from Texas (1950), Budd Boetticher’s The Cimarron Kid (1952), and Nathan Juran’s Drums Across the River (1954).

And Dennis’ take on William Friedkin’s Sorcerer (1977) on Blu-ray from the Criterion Collection. (Note that we reviewed the 4K Ultra HD edition here at the site last week.)

In announcement news today, we finally have the official word that Universal Studios Home Entertainment is releasing NBC’s Knight Rider: The Complete Series (1982-86) on 4K Ultra HD on 7/22. The 21-disc set will include all 90 episodes in their original 1.33:1 TV aspect ratio, plus previously released special features including the Knight Rider (2000) TV movie, and apparently some new features too. Studios has just unveiled their first two Hong Kong Cinema Classics releases for 4K Digital on 6/24, including John Woo’s Hard Boiled (1992) and Ringo Lam’s City on Fire (1987). They’ll be followed by Woo’s A Better Tomorrow trilogy (1986-89) in 4K Digital on 7/8, Tsui Hark’s Peking Opera Blues (1986) and Woo’s The Killer (1989) on 7/22, Tony Ching’s A Chinese Ghost Story trilogy (1987-91) on 8/5, and Woo’s Bullet in the Head (1990) on 8/19. Tim has shared his thoughts on Steve Miner’s Friday the 13th: Part II (1981) in 4K Ultra HD from the Paramount Scares: Volume 2 box set.

He’s also taken an in-depth look at Adam Marcus’ Jason Goes to Hell (1993) in 4K Ultra HD from New Line via Arrow Video.

In announcement news today, Madman Entertainment in Australia is releasing both Peter Faiman’s Crocodile Dundee: The Encore Cut (1986) and John Cornell’s Crocodile Dundee II (1988) in 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray on 7/9.

The company already has six recent 4K Ultra HD titles available, including Akira Kurosawa’s Seven Samurai (1954), Sean Baker’s Anora (2024), Richard Kelly’s Donnie Darko: 20th Anniversary Edition (2001), Coralie Fargeat’s The Substance (2024), and Bong Joon Ho’s Parasite (2019).

A24’s online shop is now taking pre-orders on Isaiah Saxon’s The Legend of Ochi (2025) on Blu-ray. The title is expected to ship in July (street date TBA). [Read on here...]
