We’ve got two more new disc reviews for you here at The Bits today...

Tim has shared his thoughts on Steve Miner’s Friday the 13th: Part II (1981) in 4K Ultra HD from the Paramount Scares: Volume 2 box set.

He’s also taken an in-depth look at Adam Marcus’ Jason Goes to Hell (1993) in 4K Ultra HD from New Line via Arrow Video.

In announcement news today, Madman Entertainment in Australia is releasing both Peter Faiman’s Crocodile Dundee: The Encore Cut (1986) and John Cornell’s Crocodile Dundee II (1988) in 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray on 7/9.

The company already has six recent 4K Ultra HD titles available, including Akira Kurosawa’s Seven Samurai (1954), Sean Baker’s Anora (2024), Richard Kelly’s Donnie Darko: 20th Anniversary Edition (2001), Coralie Fargeat’s The Substance (2024), and Bong Joon Ho’s Parasite (2019).

A24’s online shop is now taking pre-orders on Isaiah Saxon’s The Legend of Ochi (2025) on Blu-ray. The title is expected to ship in July (street date TBA). [Read on here...]

Kino Lorber Studio Classics will release Bernardo Bertolucci’s Little Buddha (1993) in 4K Ultra HD on 7/22, the same day as Sam Peckinpah’s Convoy (1978) and Mario Bava’s Danger: Diabolik (1968).

Meanwhile, Kino Lorber has also set Mark Bittner’s documentary The Wild Parrots of Telegraph Hill (2003) for Blu-ray release on 7/15.

Here’s something interesting: KLSC’s Amazon listing for Dante’s Peak (1997) in 4K Ultra HD just got updated with a new street date of 8/26. Pre-orders aren’t yet open, but I think there’s a good chance that date will actually hold. And I suspect their Daylight (1996) 4K may get re-listed soon as well.

Also today, the Cohen Media Group is releasing Léa Domenach’s The President’s Wife (2023) on Blu-ray and DVD on 6/24.

And Shout! Studios has set Kazuyoshi Takeuchi and Sunrise Studios’ anime City Hunter: Angel Dust (2023) for Blu-ray release on 7/14.

Finally, here’s something that surprised me: Our friends at Vice Press Home Video have just released John Carpenter’s Escape from New York (1981) on Collector’s Edition and Limited Edition VHS. Yes, you read that right... VHS. The fact that VHS tapes are suddenly selling again may be the single most inexplicable thing I’ve seen so far in the 21st century, but there it is. I know a couple of used audio/video dealers who tell me that vintage used VHS tapes are suddenly selling like hotcakes to young people who weren’t alive to experience the 1980s, but who are really into the nostalgia of it all. Suddenly, they’re seeking out not only VHS tapes, but VCRs and old analog TVs to play them on. Go figure! Anyway, here’s what that looks like, and here’s the link to their shop...

Escape from New York (Vice Press VHS)

Don’t mind me, but I’m just going to be sitting over here scratching my head in puzzlement over it all. Wait ‘til these kids find out about Betamax.

We’ll leave you with a look at all of the latest Kino Lorber Studio Classics 4K title announcements that are now available for pre-order on Amazon...

Little Buddha (4K Ultra HD) Hiding Out (4K Ultra HD) Billy Madison (4K Ultra HD)

Curdled (4K Ultra HD) Danger: Diabolik (4K Ultra HD) Better Off Dead (4K Ultra HD)

Stay tuned...
