Friday the 13th disc exchange program from Shout!, plus a Flintstones Blu-ray error & more release news
Today’s update on The Bits is going to be quick because, with a little luck, I should be working on our review of Universal’s Back to the Future Trilogy in 4K by the end of the day.
In the meantime, Tim has posted a review of Kevin Smith’s Mallrats, as recently released on Blu-ray by Arrow Video. Sounds like it’s a pretty good disc, so do give it a look.
Speaking of reviews, we’d like to call your attention once more to Tim’s review of the Friday the 13th Collection: Deluxe Edition Blu-ray box set. Fans (and Shout!/Scream Factory) have discovered three errors in the set, which has led Shout! to establish a disc exchange program. Specifically, there are errors in the Blu-ray discs of Friday the 13th: Part III, Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday, and Jason X. We’ve posted the exact details and exchange program instructions at the end of the second part of Tim’s review (click here for that). And if you’re having any problems, are missing discs, or what-have-you, here’s a direct link to the official page where you can report them to Shout!. [Read on here...]

Beverly Hills Cop & Coming to America in 4K, plus Star Trek: Picard on Blu-ray & RIP Ron Cobb
All right, we’ve got some pretty significant announcement news to cover here at The Bits today...
But first, I’ve posted my thoughts on Warner Bros. Home Entertainment’s new 4K Ultra HD remaster of Stanley Kubrick’s Full Metal Jacket. The disc streets today and it’s pretty solid (though it’s not quite up to the level of some of the other recent Kubrick 4K remasters simply because of the nature of the film itself). You can find that here.
And more Blu-ray and 4K reviews are forthcoming.
Now then... the big news this morning is that Paramount has officially announced the 4K Ultra HD release of Beverly Hills Cop on 12/1. A remastered Blu-ray came out earlier this year, and of course the film is already available digitally in 4K.
But that’s not all: The studio is also releasing Coming to America on 4K Ultra HD in both regular and Steelbook packaging, along with a remastered Blu-ray, that same day. This is tied to their upcoming sequel film, Coming 2 America, which is still tentatively due to arrive in theaters in December. [Read on here...]

More Paramount 4K catalog, Bill & Ted 4K, Warner might be MGM’s new distributor, and RIP Ennio Morricone
All right, we’ve got a couple things to report on for you today here at The Digital Bits.
First, European retail sources have begun sending us information suggesting that a trio of additional Paramount catalog titles is on the way to physical 4K Ultra HD later this year, at least in Europe. Those titles are: Collateral (2004), Beverly Hills Cop (1984), and Coming to America (1988). I’ve asked Paramount for confirmation that they’re coming to disc here in the States as well. I’ll post an update here when and if they respond.
Meanwhile, the Italian DVD retailer DVD-Store IT has started listing them (here, here, and here) with no street date given.
Also today, call this one Rumor Mill worthy: MGM’s physical media distribution deal with 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment officially expired on 6/30, and word on the street within the industry is that Warner Bros. Home Entertainment will now pick up those rights. There’s been no official announcement of this, and as yet no news reporting on it from the other industry trades, but that’s what we’re hearing through the grapevine. More on that as it comes in too.
