All right, we’re starting the day today with a brand new 4K Ultra HD review from our own Tim Salmons, and it’s a good one: Synapse Films’ outstanding new UHD release of Dario Argento’s Suspiria (1977). The film is a horror classic and the new 4K restoration and HDR color grade are breathtaking. Don’t miss it.

Now then... in announcement news, Lionsgate has just set Rambo: Last Blood for Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K Ultra HD release on 12/17, with the Digital release expected on 12/3. The 4K disc will include Dolby Vision HDR and Dolby Atmos audio.

Extras on all versions will include 2 featurettes (Drawing Last Blood: Multipart Production Diary and From First Note to Last Blood: Music for the Massacres) and the film’s theatrical trailer. You can see the cover artwork above left and also below.

Lionsgate has also set The Courier for release on Blu-ray, DVD, and Digital on 1/21/20. The film stars Gary Oldman and Olga Kurylenko. [Read on here...]

Dennis’ take on Jim Jarmusch’s zombie comedy The Dead Don’t Die on Blu-ray from Focus Films and Universal.

And Tim’s look at Aldo Lado’s 1972 giallo film Who Saw Her Die? from Arrow Video.

The Digital Bits and History, Legacy & Showmanship are pleased to present this retrospective commemorating the 40th anniversary of the release of Suspiria, Dario Argento’s influential “giallo” (Italian horror) film starring Jessica Harper, Stefania Casini and Flavio Bucci.

The acclaimed film, and first entry in Argento’s Three Mothers trilogy, recently turned forty, and for the occasion The Bits features a Q&A with Vincent Pereira, who discusses the film’s virtues and influence as well as his involvement with the recently issued Blu-ray release (reviewed here). All right, Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K announcements have been few and far between in the last few days, but we’ve got a couple of interesting things to report today to close out the week.

First though, we have four new horror Blu-ray reviews from Tim Salmons for those of you who are fans of the genre. All right, the big news today is that Paramount has just officially announced the 6/7 release of the Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan – Director’s Edition on Blu-ray (as we first revealed here on The Digital Bits a few weeks ago). The film itself has been remastered from a new 4K scan, with the participation of director Nicholas Meyer, and will be included on the disc in 1080p in both the original theatrical cut and the slightly longer Director’s Cut, each with 7.1 Dolby TrueHD audio.  [Read on here…]

Today is review day here at The Bits, and we’ve got a fine batch for you. To kick things off, I’ve updated my review of DreamWorks’ first film ever, The Peacemaker, from 2010. We’ve also updated a pair of great 2011 BD reviews from our dear friend Barrie Maxwell on the old Bits website: Warner’s Citizen Kane: 70th Anniversary UCE and Ben-Hur: 50th Anniversary UCE. Finally, we have a pair of new Blu-ray reviews today too from our own Tim Salmons, including Synapse’s fine new Prom Night: Special Edition and a Robert Altman classic that’s now available from our friends at Criterion: Nashville. All these discs are well worth your time and the reviews are pretty fine as well, if we do say so ourselves, so we hope you enjoy reading them!  [Read on here…]
