Lionsgate sets Rambo: Last Blood for 12/17, Suspiria 4K reviewed & Vudu to drop In-Home “Disc to Digital” app
All right, we’re starting the day today with a brand new 4K Ultra HD review from our own Tim Salmons, and it’s a good one: Synapse Films’ outstanding new UHD release of Dario Argento’s Suspiria (1977). The film is a horror classic and the new 4K restoration and HDR color grade are breathtaking. Don’t miss it.
Now then... in announcement news, Lionsgate has just set Rambo: Last Blood for Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K Ultra HD release on 12/17, with the Digital release expected on 12/3. The 4K disc will include Dolby Vision HDR and Dolby Atmos audio.
Extras on all versions will include 2 featurettes (Drawing Last Blood: Multipart Production Diary and From First Note to Last Blood: Music for the Massacres) and the film’s theatrical trailer. You can see the cover artwork above left and also below.
Lionsgate has also set The Courier for release on Blu-ray, DVD, and Digital on 1/21/20. The film stars Gary Oldman and Olga Kurylenko. [Read on here...]
Hobbs & Shaw official, plus Synapse sets Suspiria for 4K, Republic Rediscovered & tons of Shout/Scream December titles
All right, we have more new disc reviews for you today... and we’ll have a few more tomorrow as well. On tap this afternoon are...
My thoughts on Jon Favreau’s Iron Man 2 on 4K Ultra HD from Marvel and Disney. (And yes, I am working on Iron Man3, and I’ll be reviewing Dr. Strange, Guardians of the Galaxy, and the original Ant-Man in 4K when they street early next month too.)
And Tim’s look at Aldo Lado’s 1972 giallo film Who Saw Her Die? from Arrow Video.
Enjoy, and be sure to check back tomorrow for more disc reviews! And now for some release news... [Read on here...]

Argento’s Fever Dream: Remembering “Suspiria” on its 40th Anniversary
“Horror movies are often overlooked or seen as being ‘less than’ other genres, but Suspiria truly is a work of art. Visually and sonically, it’s a beautiful piece of cinema.” — Vincent Pereira, Synapse Films’ Suspiria Blu-ray Original 4.0 LCRS Audio Supervisor/Producer
The Digital Bits and History, Legacy & Showmanship are pleased to present this retrospective commemorating the 40th anniversary of the release of Suspiria, Dario Argento’s influential “giallo” (Italian horror) film starring Jessica Harper, Stefania Casini and Flavio Bucci.
The acclaimed film, and first entry in Argento’s Three Mothers trilogy, recently turned forty, and for the occasion The Bits features a Q&A with Vincent Pereira, who discusses the film’s virtues and influence as well as his involvement with the recently issued Blu-ray release (reviewed here). Pick-Ups for the Week of August 15, 2016
Welcome to a new edition of Pick-Ups!
Back this week some more reviews. Nothing new to report personally. I would like to note that I’ll be out of town for a couple of weeks in September, so don’t expect a column or reviews much from me around that time. Until then, I’m catching up on a ton of reviews (as is Bill), and I’m preparing myself for some upcoming events here at The Bits for October and November.
More on that when we get closer to that timeframe. [Read on here…]

Before we begin this afternoon, our own Tim Salmons has turned in another Pick-Ups Blu-ray review for you to check out, this time featuring a look at Synapse Films' Steelbook release of Dario Argento’s Tenebrae (1982). Do check that out here.
All right, the big news today is that Paramount has just officially announced the 6/7 release of the Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan – Director’s Edition on Blu-ray (as we first revealed here on The Digital Bits a few weeks ago). The film itself has been remastered from a new 4K scan, with the participation of director Nicholas Meyer, and will be included on the disc in 1080p in both the original theatrical cut and the slightly longer Director’s Cut, each with 7.1 Dolby TrueHD audio. Today is review day here at The Bits, and we’ve got a fine batch for you. To kick things off, I’ve updated my review of DreamWorks’ first film ever, The Peacemaker, from 2010. We’ve also updated a pair of great 2011 BD reviews from our dear friend Barrie Maxwell on the old Bits website: Warner’s Citizen Kane: 70th Anniversary UCE and Ben-Hur: 50th Anniversary UCE. Finally, we have a pair of new Blu-ray reviews today too from our own Tim Salmons, including Synapse’s fine new Prom Night: Special Edition and a Robert Altman classic that’s now available from our friends at Criterion: Nashville. All these discs are well worth your time and the reviews are pretty fine as well, if we do say so ourselves, so we hope you enjoy reading them! [Read on here…]
