Ken Burns' The Civil War coming to Blu-ray

We’re kicking the new week off today here at The Bits with a pair of new Blu-ray reviews...

First up, I’ve given Universal’s new Apollo 13: 20th Anniversary Edition a look and found it to be well worth the upgrade, especially given the newly-restored video presentation and the disc’s bargain $13 price on Amazon. Also, I’ve checked out Warner’s Jupiter Ascending on Blu-ray 3D... and I actually kind of liked it. The story is a glorious mess, but The Wachowski always manage to make their films interesting at least, and I found its send-up of camp 80s and 90s sci-fi cinema to be entertaining for a couple hours. Both titles street tomorrow, and Apollo 13 in particular is absolutely recommended. [Read on here…]

In announcement news today, this is awesome: PBS is finally bringing Ken Burns’ iconic documentary series The Civil War to Blu-ray Disc on 10/13 (SRP $129.99).

Also, Disney’s Aladdin: Diamond Edition Blu-ray is now available for pre-order on Amazon.com with a street date of 10/13 (SRP $36.99).

Warner Home Video will release The Originals: The Complete Second Season on Blu-ray and DVD on 9/1. The studio has also set Russell Crowe’s The Water Diviner for Blu-ray and DVD release on 7/28.

Music Box Films will release The 100 Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out the Window and Disappeared on Blu-ray and DVD on 8/18. With a title like that, it’s hard not to at least be curious.

And Sony will release Powers: Season 1 on Blu-ray and DVD on 7/14.
