All right, we have one bit of follow-up news today: We mentioned in a late update to yesterday’s post that Paramount’s forthcoming Mission: Impossible 4K Ultra HD releases (due on 6/26) would all contain both Dolby Vision and HDR10 high dynamic range. We now have an update for you on the audio formats that will be included on each, as follows:
Mission: Impossible = 5.1 Dolby TrueHD
Mission: Impossible 2 = 5.1 Dolby TrueHD
Mission: Impossible III = 5.1 Dolby TrueHD
Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol = 7.1 Dolby TrueHD
Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation = Dolby Atmos
That information comes directly from our studio contacts at Paramount. If you’d like to pre-order these on Amazon.com, click on the cover artwork below (and know that doing so helps to keep us going here at The Bits, and we appreciate it now more than ever).
Speaking of 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray, we now have our hands on Universal’s Jurassic Park 4K Collection and will be giving it a look over the weekend for reviews to be posted soon. So stay tuned for those (and watch our Bits social media sites as well as my own, which are linked below, for the first word when they’re posted).
Finally, I had the pleasure of a great evening last night spent with my old friend Robert Meyer Burnett (the director of Free Enterprise and you may know him from his regular appearances on Collider Heroes) and our significant others. We watched a bunches of 4K titles (including the Italian import of Zombi) and talked about the format, had dinner, drinks, and great-free ranging conversation (as always), and then took in a late showing of Solo: A Star Wars Story in Dolby Cinema. A good time was had by all, as they used to say in my little hometown newspaper. But if you’re interested in my COMPLETELY SPOILER-FREE review of the film, you will find it below…

Here’s my quick take: Solo is cute, perfectly enjoyable, and has a few genuine moments where it shines, though it’s also a bit uneven. The actors are all solid in their roles, including Alden. The film does show its troubled history a bit in that it never quite sustains its momentum. I strongly suspect this is no fault of Ron Howard (who does his best to pull things together with limited time), but rather lies with the two LEGO: Directors who got the production off on the wrong foot. Still, Solo has its heart in the right place and is a fun ride worth taking. It’s also a great film for Chewie fans. My initial grading instinct would be a B or maybe a B-, but I reserve the right to give it a bit more thought before settling on that. If you’re a Star Wars fan though, it’s totally worth your time, simply for the fact that it’s interesting to see a film set in this universe that breaks the series’ usual formula of Rebels v Empire, Jedi v Sith. Rumor is that the actors are contracted for two more films, and I would totally watch them if they do get made. So there you go.
That’s all for now. Have a great Memorial Day weekend, Happy REAL Star Wars Day, and Happy Towel Day as well. (Thanks as always to Douglas Adams for that last one.)
Stay tuned…
