The big announcement news today is that Criterion has just revealed their January Blu-ray and DVD release slate, which is set to include Kihachi Okamoto’s The Sword of Doom (Cat #280 – Blu-ray – SRP $39.95) on 1/6, Rainer Werner Fassbinder’s The Bitter Tears of Petra Von Kant (Cat #740 – Blu-ray and DVD – SRP $39.95 and $29.95) on 1/13, Guy Maddin’s My Winnipeg (Cat #741 – Blu-ray and DVD – SRP $39.95 and $29.95) and Preston Sturges’ The Palm Beach Story (Cat #742 – Blu-ray and DVD – SRP $39.95 and $29.95) on 1/20, and Lucrecia Martel’s La ciénaga (Cat #743 – Blu-ray and DVD – SRP $39.95 and $29.95) on 1/27. We’ve got another Hell Plaza Oktoberfest review for you today from Dr. Jahnke, and this one is a bit of an oddball: a shot on Super 8, West German, dark comedy/gore fest about necrophilia. We’re speaking of course, about Jörg Buttgereit’s Nekromantik. Oh yeah... on Blu-ray. Do check it out.

The Hell Plaza Oktoberfest continues today as Dr. Jahnke wraps up his review look at Rob Zombie’s Halloween II on Blu-ray from Anchor Bay and Scream Factory’s Halloween: The Complete Collection box set.

Speaking of which, I’m told that a BD replacement program will be announced soon for the Halloween 4 disc in the set that has an audio sync problem. We’ll give you the details as soon as Anchor Bay and Scream make them official.   [Read on here…]

Sorry for the quick post today. Some portion of the Interweb upon which The Bits resides has apparently been subject to a denial of service attack from Chinese hackers today, which has meant that access to the site’s been spotty all afternoon.

You’d be surprised how often this kind of thing happens online. Ah, the Interweb...
