Back from the Future: Remembering “Terminator 2: Judgment Day” on its 25th Anniversary
“Cameron’s achievement isn’t only technical. He’s using all the not-so-cheap thrills of a violent genre to make a movie with an antiviolence message, and the wonder of T2 is that he pulls it off without looking silly.” — David Ansen, Newsweek
The Digital Bits and History, Legacy & Showmanship are pleased to present this retrospective article commemorating the silver anniversary of the release of Terminator 2: Judgment Day, James Cameron’s sci-fi/action follow-up to his 1984 surprise hit featuring Arnold Schwarzenegger in perhaps his finest role. The most popular film of 1991 also featured Linda Hamilton (reprising her role as Sarah Connor) plus Robert Patrick’s memorable turn as the T-1000 and Edward Furlong as the young John Connor.
T2, the winner of four Academy Awards (including Visual Effects, Sound Mixing, Sound Editing and Makeup), opened 25 years ago this week, and to commemorate the occasion The Bits features a compilation of box-office data that places Cameron’s “violent movie about peace” in context, as well as a collection of passages from vintage film reviews and a list of the film’s “six-track” showcase presentations. Happy Tuesday, everyone. Hope you all had a great Fourth of July holiday. A special tip of the hat to the folks at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory for successfully entering the orbit of Jupiter with their Juno mission! There should be some pretty cool science to come out of that over the coming months.
Today’s post is a quick one, but we do have a couple interesting items for you today...
First up, our own Tim Salmons has just turned in his latest Pick-Ups column review, this time featuring a look at Scream Factory’s new The Return of the Living Dead: Collector’s Edition on Blu-ray! The disc streets on 7/19, and it looks like it’s really been worth the wait. Don’t miss it! [Read on here…]

Rifftrax Live! MST3K Reunion Review
For many fans of Mystery Science Theater 3000, getting the crew aboard the Satellite of Love, as well as the mad scientists way down in Deep 13, all together for a reunion wasn’t ever likely to become a reality. There were lots of factors at play keeping it from happening, many of which stem from the relationships and the “alleged” goings-on behind the scenes of the show.
Many of the cast members had also gone their various ways to pursue other projects after the show went off the air in 1999, not to mention that it would only have been relegated to a convention appearance of some sort. In many ways, it was indeed a long-shot that it would ever happen. [Read on here...]

It’s well worth your time, so do give it a look here.
Also, we’ve now got the final cover artwork for Warner’s forthcoming Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Man of Steel, and Watchmen: The Ultimate Cut on 4K Ultra HD format. All three titles street on 7/19, and we have word that Batman v Superman will be the first 100GB (3-layer) title on the format here in the States.
