All right, we have some great release news to report for you all today...
But first, we also have another new Blu-ray review: Tim has taken a look Bruno Mattei’s Cruel Jaws (1995) on Blu-ray from Severin Films. You’ll find that here.
Now then, that news we mentioned...
Our friends at Shout! and Scream Factory have just announced the 4K Ultra HD release of John Carpenter’s Prince of Darkness: Collector’s Edition on 1/19. The 4K/Blu-ray package will carry an SRP of $34.98. The 4K disc itself will include Dolby Vision and HDR10 high dynamic range, along with a new Dolby Atmos audio mix. All of the existing extras from Scream’s excellent Blu-ray release will carry over. You can see the cover artwork at left and also below. [Read on here...]

How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World coming to BD/4K in May, plus new BD reviews & announcements
We’ve got just a few bits of announcement news for you today, but first we have some new reviews for you...
Tim Salmons has checked out Phantom Lady (1944) from Arrow Academy and Skinner (1993) from Severin Films, both on Blu-ray. And Dennis Seuling has offered his thoughts on Peter Glenville’s The Prisoner (1955) on Blu-ray, also from Arrow Academy.
New 4K UHD reviews are coming later this week, after a bit of system calibration following my Oppo repair, just FYI.
Also here at the site today, we’ve posted the weekly update of the Release Dates & Artwork section with all the latest Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K Ultra HD cover art and pre-order links. As always, whenever you order literally anything from Amazon after clicking through any one of our links (it doesn’t matter which one and it doesn’t have to be for the thing you order), you’re helping to support our work here at The Bits and we really do appreciate it. First, Lionsgate has just officially set Evil Dead 2 for release on 4K Ultra HD on 12/11. The release will include Blu-ray and Digital copies in addition to 4K UHD. In addition to the previous audio commentary, the 4K disc itself will include a new tribute featurette called Bloody and Groovy, Baby! All of the previous Blu-ray extras will carry over on the included BD disc. Best of all, SRP is just $22.99. You can see the cover artwork at left and also below.

Superman & Rambo 4K updates, plus The Mangler from Scream & more BD reviews
All right, we’ve got your first look at what might be the cover artwork for Warner’s Superman: The Movie 4K Ultra HD release… by way of the official German retail cover artwork seen at left.
We know that the disc will include the theatrical version of the film in 4K, with Dolby Atmos audio.
There is also the possibility that the longer cuts will be included in the package on Blu-ray only.
The German street date is November 8, but we suspect it will be an October release here in the States.
We should know more soon, when Warner makes the official announcement, so stay tuned. [Read on here...]

Check out our reviews of Pacific Rim: Uprising in 4K, A Pistol for Ringo on Blu-ray & more
We’re working on a bunch of new reviews here at The Bits, so today’s update is going to be a quick one. But this morning we do have two reviews to start with for you...
First up, we have my thoughts on Steven DeKnight’s Pacific Rim: Uprising in 4K Ultra HD, which streets on 6/19 from Universal.
We’ve also got Tim’s take on Duccio Tessari’s 1965 spaghetti westerns A Pistol for Ringo and The Return of Ringo, both of which are now available together in a new double-feature Blu-ray from our friends at Arrow Video.
And if you check back early tomorrow morning, we’ll have my thoughts on David Ayer’s Fury in 4K Ultra HD from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment, as well as Tim’s review of Claudio Fragasso’s Zombie 4: After Death on Blu-ray from Severin Films. Both of those titles are now available in stores.
Rest assured, we’ll catch up on new announcements tomorrow afternoon or Friday morning.
Stay tuned…

Dailies – Severin Films
When it comes to the depths of obscurity, few companies manage to put out consistently under the radar material like Severin Films.
Digging up everything from cult horror oddities to lost exploitation classics, it’s clear that little known and underappreciated cinema is their bread and butter.
Some of the company’s most notable releases include Bloody Moon, Hardware, BMX Bandits, Santa Sangre, The Other Hell, Cathy’s Curse, and The Devil’s Honey.
Today, we’re going to be taking a look at a few of their more recent releases, including many we haven’t reviewed here at The Digital Bits before. [Read on here...]
Kino’s Outer Limits: Season 1 on Blu on 3/27, plus a Blade Runner 2049 3D review & Shout!Takes
We’re closing out the week here with some good release news and another Blu-ray review for you. First the review…
I’ve given Warner’s Blade Runner 2049 an in-depth look on Blu-ray 3D, a solid disc that’s Best Buy-exclusive but that’s also rather hard to find at the moment. It seems to be shipping in low quantities, as many of the retailer’s stores don’t have the disc in stock and you can’t currently find it for sale on their website either. In any case, you can read my thoughts here.
In announcement news today, Kino has set a pair of classic Gloria Swanson silent comedies, both directed by Allan Dwan, for release on Blu-ray on 4/10 as part of their Studio Classics line-up. They include Manhandled (1924) and Stage Struck (1925). Each is mastered from recent 2K scans, and will include audio commentaries, booklet essays, and accompanying piano scores. [Read on here…]
Dailies – Indie Horror (Severin Films & Intervision Releases)
When it comes to the depths of obscurity, few companies manage to put out consistently under the radar material like Severin Films, as well as Intervision Pictures. While the former deals primarily in everything from cult horror oddities to lost exploitation classics, the latter tackles many shot-on-video features from the late 1980s and early 1990s. Although both companies also occasionally do contemporary titles, little known and underappreciated cinema is their bread and butter. Some of each company’s most notable releases include Bloody Moon, Hardware, BMX Bandits, Santa Sangre, The Other Hell, Cathy’s Curse, Things, Murderlust, Phobe, and Sledgehammer, just to name a few.
Today, I’m going to cover some of their more recent releases, but I’ll start off with one we haven’t managed to include on The Bits before. [Read on here...]
