Welcome to a new edition of Pick-Ups!

Thanks for joining me. This week I’m going to focus on our distribution friends from across the pond (having also recently crossed the pond, as well), Arrow Video. So consider this an Arrow Video Catch-Up week.

And by the way, before we get into it, I didn’t get a chance to go see The Witch since my last column (in which I said I would), but hopefully, I will at some point. Sarah and I had a funeral to attend yesterday, but I hope you saw that we posted a new Blu-ray review from our own Jim Hemphill – Julien Temple’s Absolute Beginners (1986), now available on Blu-ray from our friends at Twilight Time!

We’ve got some big title announcements to catch you up on today...

First up, Disney, Fox and Lucasfilm have announced that Star Wars: The Digital Movie Collection will be available for download on Amazon, iTunes and elsewhere starting this Friday, 4/10 (SRP $89.99). For that price, you’ll get all six Star Wars films (the Original Trilogy is confirmed to be the same versions as were on the Blu-ray release) along with both new and legacy bonus material that varies by retailer. The legacy content is taken from the most recent BD releases. However, the new content includes 6 Conversations featurettes (Doug Chiang Looks Back, Sounds in Space, The Star Wars That Almost Was, Creating a Universe, The Lost Interviews, and The Effects) and 6 Discoveries from Inside featurettes (Models & Miniatures, Costumes Revealed, Hologram & Bloopers, Weapons & The First Lightsaber, Matte Paintings Unveiled, and The Sounds of Ben Burtt).  [Read on here…]

We’ve got a little more announcement news for you today...

Warner has set The John Wayne Western Collection for Blu-ray release on 6/2, including Rio Bravo, The Train Robbers, Fort Apache, and Cahill: U.S. Marshall. Of these, we believe that The Train Robbers and Cahill are new to the format.

Speaking of Warner, The Hobbit: Battle of the Five Armies is now officially up for pre-order on Amazon with a street date of 3/24 on Blu-ray 3D Combo, Blu-ray Combo and DVD. We expect the official announcement any time now.  [Read on here…]
