20th Century Fox and National Geographic are getting ready to release the Mars docudrama series on Blu-ray and DVD early in 2017 (street date is TBA).
Fox has also just officially announced the Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray release of Keeping Up with the Joneses on 1/17.
Meanwhile, Lionsgate has set John Wick for 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray release on 2/7 (SRP $22.99, but Amazon has it right now for just $15.99 – see the cover artwork below).
BBC America has set Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency for Blu-ray and DVD release on 10/1/17. That’s a long wait out, so it could just be a placeholder date until the actual one is official.
Acorn Media will release The Level: Series One on Blu-ray and DVD on 2/21.
It appears that Starz and Anchor Bay are preparing to release Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex – Season 1 and Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex – Season 2 on Blu-ray Disc on 2/21 as well (SRP $69.99 each).
And here’s something awesome: Kino Lorber has announced their intention to release Republic’s complete Adventures of Captain Marvel (1941) 12-episode serial on Blu-ray and DVD next year (read more here). No street date has been given yet, but it should be amazing. I would love to see the company get their hands on the original Flash Gordon and Buck Rogers serials as well – a proper Blu-ray release of those in restored HD could be special indeed.
Finally, some unfortunate news: According to Scorpion Releasing (see this Facebook post), it seems that MGM has lost their only print of the alternate cut of the musical The Apple (1980). They’ve put out word to the film enthusiast community in the hopes that someone can help them track it down. Click on the link for all the details. Why doesn’t it surprise me that MGM would misplace a rare film print. Hmmm... remember The Alamo?
We’ll leave you today with a look at some new Blu-ray cover artwork (with Amazon links if available) for some of the titles mentioned above, as well as Criterion’s newly-released final art for The Before Trilogy...
Stay tuned…
