Also today, Universal Studios Home Entertainment has officially set Johnny English Strikes Again for release on Blu-ray and DVD on 1/22, with the Digital release due on 1/8. Extras will include 7 featurettes. It appears there’s no US 4K Ultra HD release planned at this time.
Meanwhile, Kino Lorber Studio Classics will release a trio of films starring Alec Guinness on Blu-ray and DVD soon, including Kind Hearts and Coronets (1949), The Lavender Hill Mob (1951), and The Man in the White Suit (1951). Street date is TBA.
KL Studio Classics has also announced that they’re working on a Blu-ray and DVD release of John Huston’s Phobia (1980).
Also today, Turbine Media has just announced the details on their German (but all-region) Blu-ray release of The Psycho Legacy Collection: Deluxe Edition Blu-ray box set (Thanks to Bits reader Andrew D. for the heads-up). In addition to the world premiere of Alfred Hitchcock’s original classic uncut on Blu-ray Disc for the first time (the difference is just a few seconds of footage), the set will include Psycho II, III, and IV, plus the remake, the Bates Motel TV movie, the feature-length documentaries The Making of Psycho, Psycho Legacy, and 78/52, and significant legacy extras (over 15 hours of material, including audio commentaries and 4x3/SD “Retro” versions) on 8 Blu-rays. The package will also include the 120-page The Psycho Files book by Tobias Hohmann (in German), A1 posters, 6 art cards, a replica of Sam Loomis’ letter from the film (in English and German), 25 sheets Bates Motel notepaper, and a Bates Motel “Do Not Disturb” door hanger. The video bonus features (and audio commentaries) are presented in the original English language with optional German subtitles. You can read the full disc-by-disc breakdown here. A couple additional notes: Mill Creek Entertainment has moved the street date for The Shield: The Complete Series on Blu-ray from 12/11 to 12/18. Adjust your plans accordingly.
Warner Bros Home Entertainment is releasing a new “streamlined” version of their Batman: The Complete Animates Series Blu-ray packaging, sans swag. Look for it to become available as the Limited Edition runs out.
And for those of you who have been waiting for a 6-film package to purchase the Mission: Impossible films on 4K Ultra HD, wait no longer. One streets next Tuesday (12/4) the same day as Mission: Impossible – Fallout on disc. We’ll have a review of that film on 4K soon. You can see the packaging and pre-order the set below.
