Universal is also releasing a new Jurassic World: 6-Movie Ultimate Collection on Blu-ray and 4K Ultra HD on 8/16, which will include the original Jurassic Park, plus The Lost World: Jurassic Park, Jurassic Park III, Jurassic World, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, and of course Jurassic World: Dominion. Also today, we’ve learned that Lionsgate is going to be releasing Quentin Tarantino’s Reservoir Dogs on 4K Ultra HD on 11/15.
And Vinegar Syndrome has set The Incredible Melting Man (1977) and a wide-release SKU of Cloak & Dagger (1984) for 4K Ultra HD release on 9/27.
In wider industry news this afternoon, Shout! Factory has just inked a new worldwide distribution deal with The Jim Henson Company which will include both streaming and physical media. As part of this new arrangement, Shout! will release Farscape and its miniseries sequel/finale Farscape: The Peacekeeper Wars on Blu-ray Disc. Other titles included in this deal include The Storyteller: Greek Myths, Jim Henson’s World of Puppetry, Monster Maker, Lighthouse Island, Living with Dinosaurs, Dog City, Ghost of Faffner Hall, The Fearing Mind, Mopatop’s Shop, and Brats of the Lost Nebula. One more: Warner Bros. has apparently nixed yet another DC Comics property that was in development for HBO Max: Strange Adventures. You can read more on that here at The Hollywood Reporter.
And finally today, we must take a moment to acknowledge the passing of singer/actor Olivia Newton-John and writer David McCullough.
Olivia Newton-John was perhaps best known to film fans for her role in Randal Kleiser’s musical Grease (1978), alongside co-star John Travolta, not to mention the musical-fantasy Xanadu (1980). And of course she was a hugely-successful and Grammy Award-winning singer in the 1970s and 80s. Newton-John was 73. You can read more here at CNN.
David McCullough was an acclaimed author considered by many to be America’s historian. Home video fans will certainly recognize his voice as the narrator of Ken Burns’ The Civil War documentary series. His book John Adams was the basis for the HBO miniseries of the same name. Other terrific books by McCullough include 1776 and The Wright Brothers. He was 89. More here at PBS.
