Also today, Tim has just posted a new DVD review featuring Shout! Factory’s Cinematic Titanic: The Complete Collection box set, which features 12 films: The Oozing Skull, Doomsday Machine, The Wasp Woman, Legacy of Blood, Santa Claus Conquers the Martians, Frankenstein’s Castle of Freaks, Blood of the Vampires, East Meets Watts, The Alien Factor, Danger on Tiki Island, War of the Insects, and Rattlers. Do give it a look!
Now then… Universal has arranged new Best Buy-exclusive Blu-ray titles for release on 8/8, including The Babe (1992), BASEketball, Bowfinger, EdTV, For the Love of the Game, and Problem Child. No doubt, these will go into wide release after a few months.
Mill Creek Entertainment has set a Night of the Living Dead: 50th Anniversary Edition for release on 10/3 (SRP $14.98), but we have no other details on it at this time. Mill Creek is also releasing Vice Versa, starring Judge Reinhold and Fred Savage, on Blu-ray on 10/17.
Amazon is taking pre-orders for Jessica Jones: The Complete First Season and Daredevil: The Complete Second Season on Blu-ray and DVD for release on 8/22. Check out the cool cover artwork below.
Lionsgate is releasing Taken: Season 1 on Blu-ray on 9/26. Lionsgate has also set History’s America: Promised Land on Blu-ray and DVD on 10/17. And they’ve set Michael Jackson: Searching for Neverland for release on DVD only on 10/10.
Speaking of which, here’s something interesting: The Michael Jackson estate and Optimum Productions have created a new 3D theatrical experience out of Michael Jackson’s Thriller, with the help of director John Landis, and using the original 35mm film negative. It’s expected to make its world premiere at the 74th Venice Film Festival. No doubt Michael Jackson’s Thriller 3D will be released into theaters widely at some point, but one wonders if this film will finally be released on Blu-ray and Blu-ray 3D as well. The 2D restoration was done by Deluxe and the 3D conversion was done by Legend3D.
In other news, Cinedigm is releasing Ip Man: Season 1 on Blu-ray and DVD on 10/10.
And here’s something else interesting: Sony hasn’t officially announced the home video release of Spider-Man: Homecoming, but Amazon is showing a 4K Ultra HD “Mask Edition” that features a collectible mask case plus an exclusive comic book. You can see it here.
Finally, I got a chance to see this last week at Disney’s press event, but the studio has now officially posted it online. Here’s a look the Guardians Inferno music video that you’ll find on the forthcoming Blu-ray and 4K release of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, featuring members of the cast, director James Gunn, and David Hasselhoff himself. I’d say that you should watch this in HD, but it’s amusingly not required, as you’ll see...
Also, here’s a couple of pictures I took at the press event of Gunn and the Hoff talking about making the video...
We’ll leave you with a look at the cover art for a number of upcoming titles, including a few of those mentioned above. Click on each to pre-order them on Amazon...
Back tomorrow. Stay tuned...!
