Creepshow, Doctor Who 4K, Adrift, new Bits reviewers & Bill to host the Shout!/Scream Factory Comic-Con panel

We kick things off today with four new Blu-ray reviews, starting with Tim’s look at Don Coscarelli’s The Beastmaster (1982) now on all-region Blu-ray from Aussie distributor Umbrella Entertainment.

Also today, we have another Blu-ray review from new Bits staff reviewer David Steigman, who’s taken a look at Richard Quine’s My Sister Eileen (1955) from Twilight Time. David is a longtime cinephile who’s been watching films since the mid-1970s and has previously written reviews for the websites DVD Drive-In and EuroCult AV. He’s a big fan of the classic Godzilla films as well as other monster movies. He lives in the San Francisco Bay Area with his wife, Erlinda, and works in marketing when he’s not reviewing movies.

We also have two new Blu-ray reviews from new staff reviewer Dennis Seuling, who’s offered his thoughts on the Warner Archive’s new Seven Brides for Seven Brothers: Special Edition (1954) as well as Universal’s Blockers. Dennis has been an avid film fan since he marveled at The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms as a kid. For over 25 years, he was the Film and Home Entertainment Reviewer for The Villadom Times, a New Jersey weekly newspaper, and has written for several other publications including the website Next Projection. He’s also developed and taught a Film Studies program for two New York City high schools.

In announcement news today…

Scream Factory has set their Creepshow: Collector’s Edition for release on Blu-ray on 10/23, along with a Night of the Demons: Deluxe Edition Steelbook Blu-ray that comes with an exclusive Angelia NECA action figure. Extras will be announced soon.

Scream Factory has also set Aislinn Clarke’s The Devil’s Doorway on Blu-ray and DVD on 9/23, followed by Anthony Scott Burns’ horror film Our House on both formats on 10/30.

Don’t forget, Shout! and Scream are going to be announcing a TON of great upcoming Blu-ray and DVD titles at their annual Breaking News from Shout! Factory and Scream Factory panel at San Diego Comic-Con (Friday 7/20 at 7PM in Room 32AB) and I will be on hand to moderate the panel discussion and Q&A with our friends Brian Ward (Senior Director of Blu-ray and DVD Production) and Jeff Nelson (Senior Marketing Director). Meanwhile, Universal has officially announced Baltasar Kormakur’s Adrift for release on Blu-ray and DVD on 9/4, with the Digital release expected on 8/21. Extras will include audio commentary with the director and star Shailene Woodley, deleted scenes, 2 trailers, and 3 featurettes (Survival at Sea, Braving the Elements, and Journey).

Kino Lorber has announced their full August Blu-ray and DVD slate, which is set to include The Day After (1983 – includes both cuts) and Cradle Will Rock (1999) on 8/7, Smashing Time (1967), Born Yesterday (1993), Hope Springs (2003), and The Inkwell (1994) on 8/14, Deep Rising: 20th Anniversary Special Edition (1998), Color of Night (1994 – includes both cuts), The Rich Man's Wife (1996), and The Ties that Bind (1995) on 8/21, and Straight to Hell (1986), A Minute to Pray, A Second to Die! (1968), A Thousand Acres (1997), and Country (1984) on 8/28.

Kino Lorber has also announced that Louis Morneau’s Retroactive (1997) is coming to Blu-ray and DVD on 9/18 as part of their Studio Classics line-up. Also coming that day is Graham Baker’s Impulse (1984) mastered from a new 4K scan of the OCN. On 9/4, look for Once Upon a Crime… (1992), Bellboy (1992), and John Landis’ Oscar (1991). And they’ve set Sangaree (1953) for release on Blu-ray/Blu-ray 3D Combo on 9/25, with 3D restoration by our friends at the 3-D Film Archive. Also coming on 9/25 are William Friedkin’s Good Times (1967) and Peter Masterson’s The Trip to Bountiful (1985).

Here’s a surprise: the BBC is releasing Doctor Who: Twice Upon a Time on 4K Ultra HD on 9/25. The title is already available on Blu-ray and DVD. We’ve naturally updated the 4K Ultra HD Release List here at The Bits accordingly.

Indicator has announced its 10/5 slate of Blu-ray titles, set to include Born of Fire (1987), Absolution (1978), The Mind of Mr. Soames (1970), and The Collector (1965).

And Cartoon Network will release Steven Universe: Heart of the Crystal Gems on DVD only on 8/14.
