Also, Warner has announced Ciaran Donnelly’s Biblical epic Resurrection for release on Blu-ray on 6/15.
On the 4K front, Paramount is making G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra and G.I. Joe: Retaliation official for release on 4K Ultra HD on 7/20. Each will feature both Dolby Vision and HDR10 high dynamic range (audio is TBA). [Editor’s Note: Per confirmation with Paramount, audio will be 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio on Rise of Cobra and English 7.1 Dolby TrueHD on Retaliation.] Extras will include all of the features previously released on Blu-ray. It’s worth noting that these two titles were originally scheduled for 4K release back in 2018, but then they were delayed indefinitely and eventually became US digital-only titles (though I believe they were released on 4K disc internationally). It’s good to see that they’re finally on the way to disc here in the States.
By the way, the studio will also release Jonathan Stokes’ Wildcat on DVD only on 6/29.
Don’t forget that the newly-crowned Best Picture winner, Nomadland, is now available on Blu-ray from Disney (it streets today, along with Warner’s Judas and the Black Messiah). You can see the cover artwork and Amazon order links for both below.
Back to 4K for a moment... I’ve just learned from industry sources that there are currently no plans to release Basic Instinct on 4K disc here in the States. So if you want it, you’d better pre-order StudioCanal’s UK release here at Amazon.uk (or here at Zavvi US).
And my industry sources have also confirmed a rumor that’s been circulating around online over the last few days, specifically that Universal is quietly preparing Howard the Duck for release on 4K Ultra HD this summer. We’ve updated our 4K Ultra HD Release List here at the site accordingly.
Here’s a look at the cover artwork for a few of the titles mentioned above (with Amazon.com pre-order links if available)...
Stay tuned...
