Warner sets Clint Eastwood’s Unforgiven for 4K Ultra HD, plus Pioneer makes their new PC 4K UHD drive official

Unforgiven (4K Ultra HD Blu-ray)

Good afternoon, folks! We’ve just posted a pair of new Blu-ray reviews here at The Bits, starting with Tim’s take on John Brahm’s The Mad Magician, now available on Blu-ray 3D from Twilight Time. It’s an overlooked Vincent Price gem.

I’ve also posted my two cents on Mamoru Oshii’s classic anime Ghost in the Shell (1995), newly-reissued on Blu-ray by Starz/Anchor Bay in exclusive Mondo Steelbook packaging to take advantage of the live action remake’s debut in theaters.

One other quick review note: We’re working on a review of Arrow Academy’s Cinema Paradiso Blu-ray release, which was originally released in the U.K. back in 2013 but is new to the U.S. (and it’s flat-out terrific). So watch for that soon.

In announcement news today, Warner Bros. Home Entertainment has just set Clint Eastwood’s Unforgiven for release on the 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray format on 5/23 (SRP $44.95). The package will include the remastered Blu-ray (with extras) and a Digital HD copy too.

Also, Pioneer has just officially announced their BDR-211UBK disc drive, an internal PC BD/DVD/CD writer that supports Ultra HD Blu-ray playback. We’re not sure yet what the street date is, but it will sell for an SRP of just $129.99, and you can see all the specs here. Here’s what it looks like...
