Now then... the big news today is that Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has just officially set David Ayer’s Fury and Roland Emmerich’s The Patriot for release on 4K Ultra HD on 5/22, just as we first predicted several weeks ago here at The Bits (see our post here). From the studio’s press release today: “The Patriot was fully digitally restored from the original camera negative in 4K, while Fury was sourced from its original theatrical 4K Digital Intermediate; both films are presented on 4K Ultra HD with High Dynamic Range (HDR10) and exclusive Dolby Atmos audio.” Note that The Patriot will be the 165-minute theatrical version of the film, but the package will also include the 175-minute Extended Version on the included Blu-ray disc. Both will also include the previous Blu-ray special features, some on the 4K discs and some on the included BDs. You can see the cover artwork to the left and also below.
Now then... in case you missed it when we added it to yesterday’s post, Amazon.com is now taking pre-orders for Warner’s 4K Ultra HD of Stanley Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey, which we also first mentioned here on The Bits a few weeks back (see this post). Street date is TBA but we expect the official announcement very soon. You can pre-order that by clicking on the cover artwork below, which is TEMP art that comes from the studio via Amazon India.
Not done yet! Amazon is also now taking pre-orders for Paramount’s long-expected 4K Ultra HD releases of Ridley Scott’s Gladiator and Mel Gibson’s Braveheart, which we again first predicted here were coming many months ago (see our posts here and here). Street date for those appears to be 5/15. Again, you can pre-order them both by clicking on the cover art below, which is (again) TEMP art. Watch for the official announcement on these very soon.
Naturally, we’ve updated our 4K Ultra HD Release List here at The Bits accordingly.
Here’s that cover artwork (Patriot, Fury, and Source Code are final, the rest are TEMP). Click on each to pre-order the title on Amazon.com (note that we’ll add pre-orders as they become available for the two Sony titles)...
We’ll be back with any breaking news as soon as it comes in. Stay tuned...
