Arrow sets The Last Emperor for 4K (in the UK only), plus Young Sherlock Holmes goes Blu, KLSC brings Staying Alive to Ultra HD & Albert Pyun RIP
Well, today is Cyber Monday, which means there are still a number of good deals to be had on things around the Internet. So rather than repeating my comments from last week about Black Friday, I’ll just remind you that if you go looking for deals on Amazon today, please be sure to use one of our affiliate links (if you’d care to support our work here at The Bits in the process).
Now then, our own holiday was lovely here in SoCal. My wife’s cousin joined us for Thanksgiving, which involved eating some great food (both the usual turkey and stuffing, as well as mighty fine barbecue the day after), watching a lot of football as well as some terrific movies (including revisiting David Mackenzie’s Hell or High Water and James Mangold’s Ford v Ferrari) and a few TV series too (the season finale of Andor is fantastic—I haven’t enjoyed Star Wars this much since 1983). I also did a little bit of actual shopping, which amounted to picking up a hooded vest to wear in the office when it gets chilly and upgrading my old Pixel 3a phone to a new 6a thanks to an offer from Google that was too good to refuse. Finally, we got our Christmas tree up and decorated. So all in all, it was an enjoyable long weekend. And I certainly hope you all had a good one as well!
We’re starting today with a pair of new disc reviews for you to enjoy this afternoon...
Tim has posted his thoughts on the Terry Jones comedy Monty Python’s The Meaning of Life (1983) in 4K Ultra HD from Universal, as well as John Badham’s Saturday Night Fever (1977) in 4K Ultra HD from Paramount. Sadly, that latter is something of a disappointment. But I’ll let Tim explain that to you.
Again, watch for more new disc reviews all this week here on The Digital Bits. [Read on here...]

My Bloody Valentine update, Parasite, Quiet Place 4K Steelbook, new BD reviews, and more on CES & physical media
All right, we’ve got some news and more perspective on CES and the state of physical media here at the start of 2020. But first, we have more new Blu-ray reviews for you...
First of all, Dennis provides another perspective on Todd Phillips’ Joker on BD from Warner Bros. Home Entertainment. He seems to have liked it a little more than I did. Do check out his thoughts.
Dennis has also turned in a look at Aaron Schimberg’s Chained for Life on Blu-ray from Kino Lorber.
Speaking of Scream, the company has just announced that their forthcoming Blu-ray Collector’s Edition of My Bloody Valentine is going to include new 4K scans of both the original theatrical edition and also the Uncut version mastered from the original camera negative. [Read on here...]

Warner officially sets a remastered Matrix for 4K on 5/22, plus Die Hard on 5/15 & The Incredibles in 4K too!
All right, first up today we have two more Blu-ray reviews from Tim for you, including his thoughts on Warner Archive’s Doc Hollywood and also Dragonwyck from Twilight Time. Both are worth a look. And a little later today I’ll be back with my review of Sony’s The Dark Crystal on 4K Ultra HD (I’ll add the link here when it’s up).
Now then, the BIG news this afternoon (weren’t we just talking about this yesterday?) is that Warner Bros. Home Entertainment has now officially announced the 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray release of the Wachowskis’ 1999 sci-fi/cyberpunk classic The Matrix on 5/22 (SRP $41.99). The 4K release has been produced from a new 4K scan of the original camera negative, a remaster supervised by the film’s director of photography, Bill Pope. The resulting image has been given HDR color grades in both HDR10 and Dolby Vision, both of which will be featured on this 4K UHD release. Furthermore, the 4K release will feature Dolby Atmos object-based audio. The actual 4K disc will also include a written introduction by the Wachowskis, along with all four previously-available audio commentaries (including the Philosopher, Critics, Cast & Crew, and Composer tracks). The Matrix/Die Hard likely on 4K in May, plus Gladiator 4K will have both versions & more CBS TV DVDs
We’re starting the new week with a trio of Blu-ray reviews from Tim, all three Shout!/Scream Factory titles, including The ’Burbs: Collector’s Edition, The Strangers: Collector’s Edition, and Night of the Seagulls. More are coming tomorrow, so stay tuned.
Now then, we’ve got some interesting news today for you as well...
First up, it appears that Warner’s The Matrix and Fox’s Die Hard, which we’ve mentioned here at The Bits recently are both coming to 4K Ultra HD (see here and here), will street in 4K sometime in May. Neither title is as yet officially announced, but multiple industry sources now are pointing to likely May street dates. And we now have European retail temp cover artwork for The Matrix too, which you can see at left. [Read on here...]

Wild at Heart from Shout! Select, Hellraiser: Judgment commentary & Justice League 4K reviewed
We’re wrapping up the week with no less than four new disc reviews today, including Tim’s thoughts on The In-Laws from Criterion, the Viva L’Italia: Special Edition from Arrow Academy, and the Basket Case: Limited Edition from Arrow Video, all on Blu-ray.
I’ve also posted my thoughts on Justice League in 4K Ultra HD from Warner Bros and DC, a disc that includes both Dolby Atmos audio and Dolby Vision HDR. I’ve also got a review of The Dark Crystal in 4K from Sony coming soon, so be sure to watch for it. [Read on here...]
