Minority Report & Catch Me If You Can are coming in 4K, plus Imprint’s October slate, Deadly Spawn from Synapse & lots more!
We’ve got three more new disc reviews for all of you to enjoy today, including…
Tim’s thoughts on Jess Franco’s The Castle of Fu Manchu (1969) in 4K Ultra HD from Blue Underground as well as David Schmoeller’s Crawlspace (1986) on Blu-ray from Kino Lorber Studio Classics.
And Stephen’s take on Stephen Sayadian’s Café Flesh (1982) on Blu-ray from Mondo Macabro.
Before we get going today, it looks like we finally know what the next two Steven Spielberg films are that are going to be released in 4K Ultra HD: Multiple retail sources are reporting that both Minority Report (2002) and Catch Me If you Can (2002) are coming to the format before the end of the year from Paramount. Street date for each is TBA, but this isn’t entirely surprising—both films have been recently available Digitally in 4K. As more information comes in, we’ll be sure to let you know.
Speaking of Paramount, their long-delayed 4K Ultra HD Steelbook release of Karyn Kusama’s Æon Flux (2005) is finally set for 10/7.
Also, we have a street date for Christopher McQuarrie’s Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning (2025) on Blu-ray, DVD, 4K Ultra HD, and 4K Steelbook. Look for it to arrive on 10/14. [Read on here...]

Kindergarten Cop hits 4K in January from KLSC, plus The Wandering Earth II on Ultra HD in the UK, Matthew Perry RIP & more
All right, today’s news update here is going to be a quick one, as I’ve got a couple disc reviews to start working on this afternoon. But first, we’ve got a couple more reviews to share with you this afternoon...
Tim has delivered an in-depth look at Brian De Palma’s Carlito’s Way (1993), which is now available in 4K Ultra HD from our friends at Arrow Video.
Tim’s also just posted his thoughts on Menahem Golan’s Enter the Ninja (1981), a Cannon Films actioner new on Blu-ray from the good people over at Kino Lorber Studio Classics.
And I’m about to start work on reviews of Sony’s For All Mankind: Season One on U.S. Blu-ray, as well as their new 4K Ultra HD Steelbook release of David Anspaugh’s Rudy (1993), both titles I have a great deal of affection for. So watch enjoy today’s reviews, and watch for more here on Monday.
In terms of release news on this lovely Friday afternoon, Kino Lorber Studio Classics has just signaled that their long-awaited 4K Ultra HD release of Ivan Reitman’s Kindergarten Cop (1990) is going to street on 1/23/24. It looks like they’re just awaiting the final cover artwork to share the news on their social media, but we expect that to happen anytime now. And thanks to Bits reader Brian B. for the heads-up. Failure Was Not an Option: Remembering “Apollo 13” on its 25th Anniversary
“It’s heartening to remember now, at a moment of sharp political divisions, how the whole world seemed to hold its collective breath when the three American astronauts were in mortal danger.” — Beverly Gray, author of Ron Howard: From Mayberry to the Moon… and Beyond
The Digital Bits and History, Legacy & Showmanship are pleased to present this retrospective commemorating the silver anniversary of the release of Apollo 13, Ron Howard’s popular and award-winning docudrama about the aborted 1970 Apollo 13 lunar expedition starring Tom Hanks (Philadelphia, Forrest Gump) as astronaut Jim Lovell.
Apollo 13 — featuring Kevin Bacon (Footloose, Tremors) as Jack Swigert, Bill Paxton (Aliens, Twister) as Fred Haise, Gary Sinise (Forrest Gump, CSI:NY) as Ken Mattingly, Ed Harris (The Right Stuff, The Abyss) as Gene Kranz, and Kathleen Quinlan (Twilight Zone: The Movie, Breakdown) as Marilyn Lovell — was released twenty-five years ago this summer. For the occasion The Bits features a package of statistics and box-office data that places the movie’s performance in context, along with passages from vintage film reviews, a reference/historical listing of the movie’s IMAX re-release presentations, and, finally, an interview segment with a film historian who reflects on the film two and a half decades after its debut. First up this morning, our own Shane Buettner has posted a review of Chad Stehelski and David Leitch’s John Wick, which, as it turns out, is pretty damn great and highly entertaining to boot. The film stars Keanu Reeves. Do give our review – and then the film itself – a look. We think you’ll enjoy it. [Read on here…]
