Today’s post is going to be a quick one here at The Bits, but as always we have a few more new disc reviews, and some more good disc release news as well. First the reviews...

Dennis has posted his thoughts on Robert Benton’s Twilight (1998) on Blu-ray from Kino Lorber Studio Classics.

And Stephen has offered his take on León Klimovsky’s The Werewolf Versus the Vampire Woman (1971) in 4K Ultra HD from our friends at Vinegar Syndrome.

Now to the news... Kino Lorber Studio Classics will release Orson Welles’ The Lady from Shanghai (1947) on Blu-ray on 1/31. The company has also set Alexander Hall’s Little Miss Marker (1934) and David Greenwalt’s Secret Admirer (1985) for release on Blu-ray on 3/7. Also announced as “coming soon” to Blu-ray from the company are Rouben Mamoulian’s High, Wide and Handsome (1937) and Dave Thomas’ The Experts (1989).

Cult Epics has set Martin Koolhoven’s AmnesiA (2001) for release on Blu-ray on 4/11/23.

ClassicFlix will release Victor Saville’s The Long Wait (1954) on 4K Ultra HD on 3/21/23. [Read on here...]

Vinegar Syndrome will release Rowdy Herrington’s Road House (1989), which stars Patrick Swayze, Sam Elliot, and Kelly Lynch, on 4K Ultra HD on 1/31/23.

Mill Creek Entertainment has set Sci-Fi from the Vault: 4 Classic Films for Blu-ray release on 2/14/23, which will include Creature with the Atom Brain (1955), It Came from Beneath the Sea (1955), 20 Million Miles to Earth (1957), and The 30 Foot Bride of Candy Rock (1959). Also coming on Blu-ray that day is Thrillers from the Vault: 8 Classic Horror Films, which will include The Black Room (1935), The Man They Could Not Hang (1939), Before I Hang (1940), The Man with Nine Lives (1940), The Devil Commands (1941), The Boogie Man Will Get You (1942), The Return of the Vampire (1943), and Five (1951).

Unearthed Films is expected to release filmmaker David Twohy’s directorial debut, The Grand Tour: Disaster in Time (1992, aka Timescape), on Blu-ray on 2/7/23. You can see the cover artwork below.

Here’s a pleasant surprise, and one that confirms a title we’ve reported here on The Bits recently: Amazon has just listed Sydney Pollack’s The Way We Were (1973) for release on 4K Ultra HD on 2/14/23. We don’t have any other details and we’re still waiting on the cover artwork, but you can see the pre-order listing here. This would be in honor of the film’s 50th anniversary.

Not surprisingly, Paramount has set Sydney Pollack’s Three Days of the Condor (1975) for re-release on Blu-ray on 2/14. Paramount has set John Ford’s The Quiet Man (1952) for Blu-ray re-release on 2/28 as well. And Paramount has set Paul Michael Glaser’s The Running Man (1987) for remastered Blu-ray release on 3/7.

Paramount is also releasing Leslie Harris’ Just Another Girl on the I.R.T. (1992) on Blu-ray on 2/14 as a new Paramount Presents title.

And here’s the best news: Amazon has now listed Matthew Robbins’ Dragonslayer (1981) for release on Blu-ray, 4K Ultra HD, and 4K Ultra HD Steelbook on 2/21/23 (click on the format links to visit the respective pre-order pages), once again confirming our reporting on the title here at The Bits in recent weeks. Again, we’re waiting on official cover artwork and some kind of press release/announcement, which may or may not happen before the Christmas holiday this weekend, but we now know that it’s absolutely coming to both formats. So great news indeed.

We’ll leave you today with a look at the cover artwork for Criterion’s entire March Blu-ray and 4K release slate (and a couple more), all of which are now available for pre-order on Amazon by clicking on the covers...

Inland Empire (Criterion Blu-ray Disc) The Last Hurrah for Chivilary (Criterion Blu-ray Disc) Mildred Pierce (4K Ultra HD)

The Quiet Man (Blu-ray Disc) The Grand Tour: Disaster in Time (Blu-ray Disc) Chilly Scenes of Winter (Criterion Blu-ray Disc)

Stay tuned!
