Paramount sets the Mission: Impossible films for 4K in June, plus Ash vs Evil Dead: S3 & Counterpart: S1
All right, we’re kicking things off today with two more new Blu-ray reviews...
We start with Tim’s take on Larry Cohen’s It’s Alive Trilogy, new on Blu-ray from our friends at Scream Factory. He’s also got a review of Herschell Gordon Lewis’s Two Thousand Maniacs! on Blu-ray from the good folks at Arrow Video.
I’m working to wrap up that review of The Patriot in 4K Ultra HD from Sony, and I should have that up later this afternoon. So be sure to watch for it. Fury is on deck along with Escape Plan from Lionsgate.
Universal swears that they’re sending us the Jurassic Park Collection for review as well, so we do intend to cover it as soon as we’re able. [Read on here...]

Ready Player One is set for 7/24 and more announcements, plus reviews of Annihilation & Red Sparrow in 4K
All right, we’ve got some big announcement news for you today, but first we also have some new disc reviews for you...
To start with, I’ve posted my thoughts on Francis Lawrence’s Red Sparrow from 20th Century Fox and Alex Garland’s Annihilation from Paramount, both in 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray. Both are interesting films that definitely deserve a second look on disc.
Also, Tim has turned in his thoughts on Paul Mazursky’s Bob & Carol & Ted & Alice from Twilight Time and George P. Cosmatos’ Of Unknown Origin from Scream Factory, both in regular Blu-ray Disc.
More reviews of both formats are on the way, including Sony’s The Patriot and Fury in 4K, though we still do not have Universal’s Jurassic Park 4K Collection in hand, so it may be a few days before we get to review it for you. [Read on here...]

Die Hard & The Matrix reviewed in 4K, plus new upcoming BD/4K street dates (including Avengers: Infinity War)
We’re working on a lot more reviews here at The Bits this week, including The Patriot, Fury, and Jurassic Park (as soon as they each come in).
Meanwhile, we’ve just posted our review of Fox’s Die Hard in 4K Ultra HD here at the site (it streets tomorrow). And on Friday night, we posted our review of Warner’s The Matrix in 4K as well (due on 5/22). Both are good, though The Matrix is the real stand-out title, absolutely reference quality in every way (and the Blu-ray has been remastered from the new 4K transfer too). Don’t miss them. New 4K & BD reviews, LEGO Aquaman, Masters of Sex, Documentary Now!, Junior & more
We’ve got a bit of a slow news day here at The Bits, but we do have a couple items to report...
First though, we’ve got no less than four new disc reviews for you, including my own thoughts on Universal’s The Incredible Hulk, the second installment in Marvel’s Cinematic Universe, as well as Christopher Nolan’s Batman Begins and The Dark Knight from Warner, all new to the 4K Ultra HD format. Tim also checks out Scream Factory’s The House that Dripped Blood on regular Blu-ray Disc. All are well worth a look, both the discs and the reviews, so do check them out.
Rest assured, we’re hard at work on several more new Blu-ray and 4K reviews here at the site. We expect to have our hands on Warner’s The Matrix and Fox’s Die Hard: 30th Anniversary Edition on Ultra HD any day now, so look for those reviews to be posted very soon. [Read on here...]

Gladiator 4K reviewed, plus Rick and Morty, new Shout!/Scream, Quick and the Dead 4K & more
First things first today... some of you may have seen my reviews of Mel Gibson’s Braveheart and Ridley Scott’s Gladiator on 4K Ultra HD when I posted them late on Friday night, but if not... there you go. Both are coming out on 5/15 from Paramount in reference quality (or very close to it) and they’re certainly the best way to see these films yet bar none.
Also today, Tim has just posted reviews of Kino Lorber Studio Classics’ outstanding new The Outer Limits: Season One box set, along with Adult Swim’s Rick and Morty: Season 1 and Season 2, all on Blu-ray. Each of these titles are well worth a look.
In 4K Ultra HD catalog news, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has just set The Quick and the Dead for release on the format on 7/17. The 4K disc will feature Dolby Atmos audio and HDR10. It will also include the previous Blu-ray extras and will add 7 never-before-seen deleted scenes for this release. We’ve updated the 4K Ultra HD Release List here at The Bits accordingly. Die Hard: 30th official for 5/15, plus Saving Private Ryan 4K & more reviewed & more new 4K catalog titles
All right… before we get started today, we’ve posted a whole bunch of new disc reviews in the last two days, including my own takes on Steven Spielberg’s Saving Private Ryan and The Post, Guillermo del Toro’s The Shape of Water, and Randal Kleiser’s Grease: 40th Anniversary Edition all in 4K Ultra HD from Paramount and/or 20th Century Fox. All are worth your time, but let me tell you… Saving Private Ryan is a revelation, an absolutely reference-quality A/V experience on this format. It’s really something. All of these titles are currently available except for Ryan, which streets on 5/8.
Meanwhile, Tim has checked in with reviews of Shout! Factory’s Doctor Detroit, Scream Factory’s Prince of Darkness: Collector’s Edition (both regular and the new Steelbook edition), Epic/Dread Central’s Terrifier, Fox’s Legion: The Complete First Season, and Arrow’s Killer Klowns from Outer Space, all of them on Blu-ray Disc. Do give them a look! [Read on here...]

Universal sets Pacific Rim Uprising for Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K Ultra HD release on 6/19
All right, we’ve got a trio of disc reviews for you today...
We start with Tim’s look at Dario Argento’s Deep Red (1975) on Blu-ray from Arrow Video, and Federico Fellini’s Orchestra Rehearsal (1978) on Blu-ray from Arrow Academy.
I’ve also checked in with my thoughts on The Greatest Showman in 4K Ultra HD, from director Michael Gracey and 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment. The musical features an absolutely reference quality A/V presentation, including some of the best looking 4K video yet seen on the format. Do give it a look.

Criterion reveals its July titles, plus Annihilation, Red Sparrow, Hurricane Heist & Harry Anderson RIP
All right, we’ve got a trio of new reviews for you today, plus some big release news...
First, I’ve given Duncan Jones’ Source Code a look on 4K Ultra HD from Lionsgate and Summit Entertainment, featuring Dolby Atmos and Dolby Vision HDR. I’ve also reviewed Scott Cooper’s western Hostiles on 4K Ultra HD, also from Lionsgate. Both are well worth your time.
And Tim Salmons has given Shout! Factory’s new Mystery Science Theater 3000: Season 11 a spin on Blu-ray Disc, featuring 14 new episodes (Reptilicus, Cry Wilderness, The Time Travelers, Avalanche, The Beast of Hollow Mountain, Starcrash, The Land That Time Forgot, The Loves of Hercules, Yongary: Monster from the Deep, Wizards of the Lost Kingdom, Wizards of the Lost Kingdom II, Carnival Magic, The Christmas That Almost Wasn’t, and At the Earth’s Core). Early Man, Wind, Disney/Marvel BD3Ds in the UK, Kino, a new Talking Blu & Chuck McCann RIP
We have just a couple things for you today, but first a quick recommendation…
If you’re a fan of Stanley Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey, you really owe it to yourself to pick up a copy of Michael Benson’s new book on the making of the film, Space Odyssey. I’m only about a quarter of the way through it, but it’s incredibly comprehensive and filled with interesting and surprising revelations and insights on the production. I can’t recommend it more highly. You can find it here on Amazon.
Also today, we’ve updated the Release Dates & Artwork section with all the latest Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K Ultra HD cover artwork and Amazon.com pre-order links. Disney makes Marvel’s Black Panther official for Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K Ultra HD on 5/15
All right, we’ve got a pair of new Blu-rays for you today and some mighty release news…
First, Tim has turned in a look at Robert Altman’s Images (1972) on Blu-ray from Arrow Academy for you all to check out.
And I’ve checked in with my thoughts on Fabulous Film’s new Region B Blu-ray box set of Northern Exposure: The Complete Series, which features all 110 episodes in HD with the original uncut music (at long last). Unfortunately, there seems to be no U.S. (Region A) release planned, so you’ll need an all-region capable Blu-ray player to take advantage of it.
I’ll also be checking back in later today with at least one more review of a 4K Ultra HD title, with more on the way soon. So be sure to watch for those. [Read on here...]
