All right, we’ve got a couple new Blu-ray reviews for you today from our own Shane Buettner – his thoughts on Universal’s As Above So Below and Kino Lorber’s The Missouri Breaks. Do check them out.

I’m going to check in again tomorrow to update you all on the latest Blu-ray and DVD release news from the last few days, but I wanted to offer you all more CES coverage this afternoon with some major new information and details related to 4K Blu-ray – really the first significant news about this format to date, fresh and direct from the Blu-ray Disc Association (BDA).  [Read on here…]

It’s back to business as usual as we start the New Year!

As some of you may be aware, today marks the kickoff of the 2015 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, and it appears that 4K is going to be all the rage this year. There are a ton of manufactures showing off new 4K UHD TVs in all shapes and sizes – even more curved and flexible offerings, as well as OLEDs, and displays using new ‘Quantum Dot’ technology (more on that in a minute) – and this finally appears to be the year when they’re going to become affordable, as regular 1080p HDTVs get dirt cheap.  [Read on here…]

All right, this is just a quick post with three things in mind:

First, I’ve posted a review of Fox’s recent Kingdom of Heaven: Ultimate Edition Blu-ray – a worthy upgrade of a previously fine DVD special edition of a great film by Ridley Scott. Do give it a look.  [Read on here…]

Good afternoon, all! We trust you all enjoyed a fine long holiday weekend. We’re just checking in today with a couple of things. First, a pair of new Blu-ray reviews...

Our own Tim Salmons has turned in his thoughts on David Hess’s To All a Goodnight (1980) from Kino Lorber and also Bill Condon’s Candyman: Farewell to the Flesh (1992) from Scream Factory, both now availabe on Blu-ray. We’re working on a few more reviews for the next week or so as well, including a couple of more mainstream releases. [Read on here…]

Well folks, this is going to be our last post until Monday as we take the rest of the week off to spend the Christmas holiday with our families. But we do have some cool stuff for you…

First, we’ve got a pair of new Blu-ray reviews. Our own Tim Salmons has checked out Scream Factory’s Lord of Illusions and Criterion’s The Innocents, and both are well worth a look. Also, in the spirit of the holiday season, we present my review of Frank Capra’s It’s a Wonderful Life on Blu-ray, as well as Dr. Jahnke’s look at A Christmas Story, and Barrie Maxwell’s thoughts on White Christmas.  While we’re at it, here’s Die Hard too. Because nothing quite says Christmas like “Yippee ki-yay!” Enjoy!  [Read on here…]

We’re back as promised today with a very quick update, including my in-depth look at CBS’ Star Trek: The Next Generation – Season Seven Blu-ray release. It’s a fitting swan song to what’s been an amazing effort by the folks at CBS to remaster the series in HD and load these discs up with great new extras too. Don’t miss it!   [Read on here…]

We’ve got TWO more Blu-ray reviews for you today before we call it a week: Tim’s thoughts on Paramount’s new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and my own look at Warner’s fine (but also frustrating) Stanley Kubrick: The Masterpiece Collection box set. Do give them a read.

In announcement news today, Microsoft Studios is apparently planning to release the live action/CG hybrid film Halo: Nightfall on Blu-ray on 3/17.

Cohen Media Group has set The Liberator for Blu-ray on 3/10.  [Read on here…]
