My Two Cents

Good afternoon, folks! We’ve just posted a pair of new Blu-ray reviews here at The Bits, starting with Tim’s take on John Brahm’s The Mad Magician, now available on Blu-ray 3D from Twilight Time. It’s an overlooked Vincent Price gem.

I’ve also posted my two cents on Mamoru Oshii’s classic anime Ghost in the Shell (1995), newly-reissued on Blu-ray by Starz/Anchor Bay in exclusive Mondo Steelbook packaging to take advantage of the live action remake’s debut in theaters.

Also, we’ve just posted the weekly Release Dates & Artwork section update with all the latest Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray cover artwork and Amazon.com pre-order links. As always, a portion of anything you order from Amazon after clicking to them through our links goes to help support our work here at The Bits and we appreciate it enormously. So thank you! I’m working on a few more of those Ultra HD reviews for posting over the next couple days, so today’s update is going to be brief. But we do have a few interesting items for you today...

First up, our own Tim Salmons has just kicked off his latest installments of his Dailies: Pick-Ups column. This week, Tim’s going to catch up with a few great Blu-ray titles from our friends at Arrow Video, the first of which is Buddy Cooper’s The Mutilator (1985). Do give it a look.  [Read on here…]

All right, we’ve got even more big title announcements for you this afternoon...

First, Warner Home Video has officially set Clint Eastwood’s American Sniper for Blu-ray Combo and DVD release on 6/30 (SRP $44.95 and $28.98). Extras on the Blu-ray will include a pair of behind-the-scenes documentaries, including The Making of American Sniper and One Soldier’s Story: The Journey of American Sniper. By the way, some of you will be glad to learn that the Blu-ray will include a 7.1 audio mix compatible with Dolby Atmos.  [Read on here…]

We’ve just a quick update for you today here at The Bits, but we do have some new reviews...

Our own Tim Salmons has checked in with a review of the Coen Brothers’ classic Fargo (the new 4K remastered edition) on Blu-ray from Fox and MGM, as well as Fox’s new Fargo: The Complete First Season TV series on BD (at least a little bit more of which actually takes place in Fargo, North Dakota, which is where I’m from). And since we’re on the topic, we thought it would appropriate to upgrade Dr. Jahnke’s fine analysis of Fargo on DVD (from way back in “aught four”) into the new review database as well. Enjoy!  [Read on here…]
