The Big Lebowski & Jurassic World 5-Film set coming to 4K, plus new Kino & Shout/Scream titles
All right, let’s have a quick update with more breaking release news…
Many months after we first told you it was coming, Universal is finally bringing The Big Lebowski to 4K Ultra HD on 10/16, with both regular and limited editions available (the latter can be seen below, packed with swag). We’re awaiting the official announcement, but both are now listed for pre-order on Amazon.com (click here and here to see them).
Also, the studio is releasing a Jurassic World: 5-Film Collection on 4K Ultra HD on 9/18, day and date with the home video release of Jurassic Park: Fallen Kingdom on Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K. So those of you who waited to pick up all the earlier films in 4K hoping for a 5-film box, now’s your chance. You can see the cover art art right and you can pre-order it here.
Note that we’ve updated the 4K Ultra HD Release List here at The Bits with this information and pre-order links for a number of additional upcoming 4K titles. [Read on here...]

Batman: TAS, Jonny Quest, and TONS of new Shout!/Scream titles announced at Comic-Con – we have the details!
Let’s catch you up on the Blu-ray announcements that came in at Comic-Con from the Warner Archive Collection and both Shout! Factory and Scream Factory.
First up, just as expected, the Warner Archive announced their long-awaited Batman: The Complete Animated Series Blu-ray box set for release on 10/16 (SRP $112.99).
The cover artwork we shared last week is NOT final, but we do have a look at the final package below.
If you click on it (or here) you can now pre-order the set on Amazon.com (you’ll get the final sale price when the discount is eventually factored in). [Read on here...]
Batman: The Animated Series on Blu-ray gets cover art, plus Bill at Comic-Con & 2 reviews
All right, we’ve got a pair of new disc reviews for you…
Tim has taken a look at Lionsgate’s recent Vestron Video Collector’s Series titles, including Dagon and Beyond Re-Animator. Both are worth your consideration, so enjoy the reviews!
Also today, don’t forget that I’ll be at Comic-Con this evening to host the Breaking News from Shout! Factory and Scream Factory panel with Brian Ward and Jeff Nelson. The panel runs from 7-8PM in Room 32AB and there’s a whole bunch of great titles going to be announced! Trust me, I’ve seen the list. You guys are going to dig these. We’ll also have Q&A and a lot of fun, so be sure to join us if you’re down in San Diego tomorrow.
If not, we’ll post the details here on The Bits on Saturday, rest assured. And if you follow me on Twitter (@BillHuntBits), I’ll post the details there immediately after the panel. [Read on here...]
Zatoichi (1989) finally coming to Blu-ray, plus X-Files: S11, Olive’s Bound & a Jack Ryan 4K update
We’ve got more interesting announcements today, including a very nice surprise, plus new reviews too.
First up, those reviews… Tim has taken a look at Richard Friedman’s Doom Asylum on Blu-ray from Arrow Video, along with Dread Central’s Director’s Cut on Blu-ray. Both are well worth a look.
Also, as promised, we posted Michael Coate’s latest History, Legacy & Showmanship column last night, which is a celebration of the 25th anniversary of Steven Spielberg’s Jurassic Park. The packed column features a look back at the original theatrical release (the first ever in DTS) along with a great new roundtable discussion with film historians Joseph McBride, Mike Matessino, and Steven Awalt. We think you’ll really enjoy it.
Also today, we’ve just posted the weekly update of our Release Dates & Artwork section, featuring all the latest Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K Ultra HD cover artwork and Amazon.com pre-order links. As always, anytime you order literally anything from Amazon after clicking through one of our links, you’re helping to support our work here at The Bits and we really appreciate it. So thank you! Shout! Factory panel video, American Gods: S1, Cameron: Abyss & True Lies coming, This Is Us, Apollo 13 & more
All right, sorry for the lack of a news post yesterday, but the reason for it is that we’re hard at work on reviews for you here at The Bits. Speaking of which, late last night I posted my thoughts on Ridley Scott’s Alien: Covenant in 4K Ultra HD format from 20th Century Fox. That streets today. Yesterday afternoon, I also completed a review of Arrow’s new Blu-ray edition of John Frankenheimer’s Ronin, which arrives in stores on 8/29.
Meanwhile, Tim has turned in his thoughts on Scream Factory’s fine new Teen Wolf: Collector’s Edition Blu-ray and he’s also taken an exhaustive look at the contents of Sony’s recent Spider-Man: Limited Edition Collection Blu-ray box set. Now, a number of Bits readers have asked me recently what’s in the set, do all the legacy extras carry over, and what new content there may be. Tim has answered all of those questions for you in his review. The highlight of the set if definitely the new Spider-Man 3: Editor’s Cut created by Bob Murawski – we hear it’s a definite improvement upon the theatrical cut. So do give all of the above a look.
Also know that I am currently hard at work on my review of James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 on 4K Ultra HD format and I hope to have that posted later today. So keep checking back for it. [Read on here…]

Alien: Covenant on 8/15, Bill to host Shout!/Scream’s Comic-Con panel & spotlight on UK indie Indicator
All right, it’s been an exciting few days for Blu-ray and 4K Ultra HD release news, with the latest being director James Gunn’s confirmation that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is soon to be announced for Blu-ray, Blu-ray 3D, DVD, and 4K Ultra HD (see our post from early this morning). We expect Disney’s official announcement in the next two weeks.
Before we get started today, I’m excited to announce that I’ll be moderating the official Breaking News from Shout! Factory and Scream Factory panel at Comic-Con in San Diego later this month! Here’s the official write-up from Shout:
“Genre and horror film buffs, collectors and pop culture enthusiasts alike won’t want to miss Breaking News from Shout! Factory and Scream Factory. At 8 pm on Friday, July 21st in Room 4, join Jeremy Whitham (Development Director), Brian Ward (Sr. Director of Blu-ray and DVD Production) and Jeff Nelson (Sr. Marketing Director) as they make special announcements and unveil exclusive sneak peeks of upcoming Blu-ray collector’s editions and new movies coming to theaters this fall. A fan-driven insider’s event filled with lively discussion and a few surprises, this panel discussion and Q&A will be moderated by Bill Hunt of The Digital Bits.”
It should be a lot of fun, so if you’re going to be attending the Con, please be sure to drop in for it. I’ll be a panelist on another panel at the Con as well, which I’ll tell you more about next week. [Read on here…]
