Also, Sony is bringing their previous Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon 4K Steelbook release back into print on 9/26.

Warner Bros. Discovery Home Entertainment has set Titans: The Fourth and Final Season for release on Blu-ray and DVD on 10/17. Extras will include 3 featurettes (Welcome to Metropolis, Baptism of Blood, and Mystical Women).

DreamWorks and Universal have officially set the animated Ruby Gillman, Teenage Kraken for release on Blu-ray and DVD on 9/26, with the Digital release expected on 8/29. Extras will include deleted scenes, drawing guides, audio commentary with the filmmakers, and several behind-the-scenes featurettes.

Cruncyroll has set the anime title Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero for 4K UHD + Blu-ray Combo release on 11/21.

Down in Australia, Via Vision Entertainment has set their September slate to include Stanley Kubrick’s Dr. Strangelove in 4K Ultra HD, and Roald Dahl’s Tales of the Unexpected: Collection One, Endeavour: Series Nine, Bonanza: The Official Thirteenth Season, Quantum Leap: Season One (the remake), Vera: Series 1-6, Boss: The Complete Series, Cold Feet: Collection One, Great British Railway Journeys: Series 10 & 11, Murdoch Mysteries: Collection Two – Seasons 5-8, Water Rats: The Complete Collection, Xena: Warrior Princess – The Ultimate Collection, Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights, the Ava Gardner Collection (Singapore, On the Beach, Tamlin), and Hacks: Seasons 1 & 2 all on DVD only. Street dates are 9/13 and 9/27 for these.

Over in the UK, Second Sight has revealed that they’re working on a new 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray release of Martin Scorsese’s Mean Streets (1973), in collaboration with Criterion (which has a US Blu-ray and 4K already announced for 11/21). The new 4K master, which was approved by Martin Scorsese and Thelma Schoonmaker, was co-funded by Criterion and Second Sight.

Speaking of Second Sight, they’re still working on their planned 4K and Blu-ray release of Robert Harmon’s The Hitcher (1986) and, per an update on their Facebook page a couple weeks ago, it’s likely to street in the first quarter of next year (February at the earliest).

And on the Digital-only front, Disney has announced that Molly Gordon & Nick Lieberman’s Theater Camp will be released Digitally on 9/14. It will also begin streaming on Hulu that same day.

Now let’s talk about some unofficial release news based on information from our industry sources.

First up, you may remember when we first shared this video with producer Jon Landau that I shot at Lightstorm back in March (see Bits link here)...

Of the titles discussed in the clip, the original Avatar has now been released in 4K Ultra HD. Which means, there are still three James Cameron films that—if all goes well in authoring and replication—should hit 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray Disc right around the end the year: The Abyss, True Lies, and Titanic. That last one is obviously a Paramount title, and our sources indicate that Paramount is likely to announce that one first. The thing to know about these is that Lightstorm is involved in each of them, so the A/V quality and extras should be exactly as Cameron wishes them. We’re hearing, for example, that they should all be released on UHD-100 discs. And once those titles are done and out, we’re hearing that Cameron’s Aliens is likely to be next on deck for 4K release in 2024.

Here’s something fun: Film critic Mark Kermode apparently shared on his podcast on Friday that he’s written the liner notes for a new 4K Ultra HD release of Paul Thomas Anderson’s Punch Drunk Love (2002), which is likely to come from Criterion. So watch for that in the months ahead. Thanks to Bits reader Robert P. for the heads-up on that!

And finally, we’re hearing that Greta Gerwig’s Barbie is still likely to street on Blu-ray and 4K on 10/3 from Warner Bros. And retail sources are now suggesting that Angel Manuel Soto’s Blue Beetle is likely to follow it on either 10/17 or 10/21. Keep in mind, those dates could still shift a bit until they’re officially announced.
