We’ve got a couple things for you today, starting with a pair of additional Blu-ray reviews...

Dennis has taken a look at Joseph Pevney’s The Strange Door (1951) on Blu-ray from Kino Lorber Studio Classics. He’s also turned in his thoughts on John Ford’s The Whole Town’s Talking (1935) on Blu-ray from Twilight Time. Both titles are well worth a look, so do check them out.

In announcement news today, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has just revealed that they’re bringing Edward Zwick’s Glory to 4K Ultra HD on 7/30 in honor of its 30th anniversary. The film will also return to theaters briefly on 7/21 and 7/24. The new 4K Ultra HD presentation was scanned from the original camera negative and features an HDR grade approved by Zwick. It will also feature a new Dolby Atmos sound mix, along with the original theatrical audio mix. [Read on here...]

Extras on the 4K disc will include the visual feature-length commentary and the trailer. The included Blu-ray version in the package will add the director’s commentary, deleted scenes with commentary, the Virtual Civil War Battlefield Interactive Map, The True Story Continues documentary, and 2 featurettes (The Voices of Glory and The Making of Glory). You can see the final cover artwork above left.

In regular Blu-ray news, Warner and DC have set Titans: The Complete First Season for release on Blu-ray and DVD on 7/16. Extras will include 15 featurettes (Raven and Robin Dark Rebirth, The Story of Titans, The Characters of Titans, The Making of Titans, Dick Grayson’s and Rachel Roth’s Dark Past, A Look at Vigilantes Hawk and Dove, The Identity of Titans Kory Anders/Starfire, Gar Logan’s Journey, Rachel’s Powers, The Doom Patrol Meets the Titans, Jason Todd’s Robin, From Comic to Live-Action Adventure, Meet Wonder Girl, Dick Grayson’s Dark Past, and World of Super Heroes and Vigilantes).

Warner has also set Manifest: The Complete First Season for release on DVD only on 7/23. There appear to be no extras.

Universal and DreamWorks have set How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World for release on Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K Ultra HD on 5/21, with the Digital release due on 4/30. The Blu-ray and 4K versions will each offer Dolby Atmos audio. Extras on the Blu-ray versions will include an alternate opening with intro by writer/director Dean DeBlois, 2 shorts (Bilby and Bird Karma), deleted scenes with intro by DeBlois, How to Voice Your Viking, Creating an Epic Dragon Tale, How I Learned from Dragons, Brave Wilderness Presents: Nature + Dragons = Awesome, The Dragon Sheep Chronicles, A Deck of Dragons, Growing Up with Dragons, The Evolving Character Design of Dragons, Drawing Dragons, Epic Villain, Astrid’s Whole Dragon Trilogy in 60 Seconds, Welcome to New Berk, and audio commentary (with DeBlois, producer Bradford Lewis, and head of character animation Simon Otto). We’ve updated our 4K Ultra HD Release List accordingly.

And Paramount and Comedy Central are releasing Broad City: Season 5 and Broad City: The Complete Series on DVD only on 7/9.

Now then... a number of you have asked us when our friends over at The Criterion Collection are finally going to jump on the 4K Ultra HD bandwagon. Here’s the thing: We know that many of the titles they release on Blu-ray and DVD are based on new 4K masters/restorations. I’ve also confirmed with Criterion that they do eventually plan to add 4K to select streaming titles on The Criterion Channel. As for physical 4K Ultra HD, they’re not saying much at the moment. But... let me submit this: If you’ve been watchful, you’ll know that the physical Criterion Collection is well over 900 titles strong. In fact, at last count (see our Criterion Spines Project on this) their newly-announced July slate takes them up to spine #986. At a rate of 5-6 new titles per month, they should hit #1000 in October or November. What better way to celebrate that milestone than to have title 1000 include their first 4K Ultra HD release? Just saying. We’ll see.

Now then, some big pre-orders have become available on Amazon.com, including HBO’s Game of Thrones: Season 8 on Blu-ray and 4K and Game of Thrones: The Complete Series on Blu-ray only (street date is TBA and a 4K of The Complete Series is likely coming later, but mastering those early seasons in 4K takes time), along with Shout!’s Space: 1999 – The Complete Series on Blu-ray, and Universal’s Fast & Furious: 8-Movie Collection in 4K Ultra HD. So here are those links (with what cover artwork is currently available)...

Game of Thrones: Season 8 (4K UHD) Game of Thrones: Season 8 (Blu-ray) Space: 1999 - The Complete Series (Blu-ray)

Game of Thrones: Complete (Blu-ray) Fast and Furious: 8-Movie Collection (4K UHD) Prospect (Blu-ray)

Finally today, I expect to have my hands on Fox’s Alien 4K Ultra HD release literally any day now. Rest assured, I will have it reviewed on The Bits within a few hours of its arrival.

Stay tuned...
