Now then... a quick follow up on a bit of news we posted on Tuesday. Sony Pictures Home Entertainment is releasing Greta Gerwig’s Oscar-nominated Little Women on 4/7, but they don’t plan to include a physical 4K Ultra HD release here in the States. The good news is that there is one coming in Germany in June (6/20 to be precise) and if you’re interested you can pre-order it here (or by clicking on the cover artwork on the right).
In terms of new announcements, the big news today is that The Criterion Collection has just unveiled their May 2020 slate of Blu-ray and DVD titles. Look for Eric Rohmer’s Six Moral Tales (Spine #342 – Blu-ray and DVD – includes The Bakery Girl of Monceau, Suzanne’s Career, My Night at Maud’s, La collectionneuse, Claire’s Knee, and Love in the Afternoon) on 5/5, John Sturges’ The Great Escape (Spine #1027 – Blu-ray and DVD) on 5/12, Paul Dano’s Wildlife (Spine #1031 – Blu-ray and DVD) and Dorothy Arzner’s Dance, Girl, Dance (Spine #1028 – Blu-ray and DVD) on 5/19, and John Cassavetes’ Husbands (Spine #1029 – Blu-ray and DVD) and Scorsese Shorts (Spine #1030 – Blu-ray and DVD – includes Italianamerican, American Boy, The Big Shave, What’s a Nice Girl Like You Doing in a Place Like This?, and It’s Not Just You, Murray!) on 5/26.
And not to be outdone, Neon and Criterion have also announced that Bong Joon-ho’s Memories of Murder and Parasite (which just won the Academy Award for Best Picture) will be joining the Criterion Collection later this year. Street dates are TBA.
In other announcements, HBO has revealed that Watchmen: An HBO Limited Series will be released on Blu-ray and DVD on 6/2. The set will feature over 90 minutes of bonus content, including 2 disc exclusive featurettes (Hooded Justice and The Colossal King – Adrian Veidt), as well as 15 additional features (Watchmen: Unmasked, 2019 New York Comic Con, Watchmen: Masked and Dangerous, Watchmen S1: Trailer, Character Trailers: Sister Night, Blond Man and Looking Glass, Becoming Sister Night, Notes from the Watchmen graphic novel artist Dave Gibbons, Rorschach Featurette, Watchmen: Alternate History, It’s Raining Squids, Squid Shelter with Tim Blake Nelson, Andrij Parekh on Directing, Sadiqua Bynum Runs, Jumps and Falls for Sister Night, Anatomy of a Fight Scene, and Glimpses – The Visual Effects of Watchmen). SRP is $44.98 for Blu-ray and $39.99 for DVD.
20th Century Fox has officially set the animated Spies in Disguise for release on Blu-ray, DVD, Digital, and 4K Ultra HD on 3/10. The film features the voices of Will Smith and Tom Holland. The 4K will include Dolby Atmos audio. Extras will include 6 featurettes, 2 music videos and galleries.
Sony has set Nicolas Pesce’s The Grudge (2019) for release on Blu-ray and DVD on 3/24, with the Digital release due on 3/10. Extras will include 3 featurettes and deleted and extended scenes.
Universal Pictures Home Entertainment has set Dolittle for release on Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K Ultra HD on 4/7, with the Digital release due on 3/24. Extras will include 6 featurettes. HDR on the 4K will be HDR10+ and audio will be Dolby Atmos.
Universal has also announced the Blu-ray and DVD release of the ill-fated (and now infamous) Cats on 4/7, with the Digital release due on 3/17. Extras will include 10 featurettes (not one on the VFX, I might add).
And the Warner Archive Collection will release Lucifer: The Complete Fourth Season on Blu-ray on 5/12. It will be available widely on DVD from Warner Bros. Home Entertainment that same day as well. Extras will include deleted scenes.
