Look for these to street on 4/4, aka “Star Trek Day,” in both 4K Ultra HD and remastered Blu-ray editions. And here’s what each of those will look like...
As you know, there will also be a 4K Ultra HD 4-Film Collection box set that same day, but we don’t yet have the cover art for it. (You can bet we’ll share it the moment we get our hands on it).
But we’re not even close to done yet: Retail sources have just leaked the 4K Ultra HD and 4K Steelbook cover artwork for a trio of titles we first revealed were coming to the format from Warner Bros. back in January (click here for that). So here’s the final cover artwork for John Huston’s The Maltese Falcon (1941), Stuart Rosenberg’s Cool Hand Luke (1967), and Nicholas Ray’s Rebel Without a Cause (1955)... [Editor’s Note: This is UK cover art, so don’t read into the lack of Digital Code on the top banner.]
They’re already up for pre-order on Amazon UK (click here, here, here, here, here, and here) with street dates of 4/3 (for Maltese Falcon and Cool Hand Luke) and 4/17 (for Rebel without a Cause) respectively, which suggests that the US dates have shifted to 4/4 and 4/18 (from the previously anticipated 4/11 and 4/25). But we’ll know for sure when Warner Bros. Discovery Home Entertainment makes their official announcements, which we expect to happen any day now.
But that’s not all: We also now know that Warner is playing to release a series of 4K Ultra HD box sets—at least in the UK—to celebrate the studio’s 100th anniversary, including a 100 Years of Warner Bros.: Classic Hollywood 5-Film 4K Collection (1930s–1960s) with The Wizard of Oz, Citizen Kane, Casablanca, Singin’ in the Rain, and Rebel without a Cause (street date 4/3 in the UK), a 100 Years of Warner Bros.: New Hollywood 5-Film 4K Collection (1970s–1980s) with Enter the Dragon, Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory, Gremlins, The Goonies, and The Lost Boys (UK date 8/7), and a 100 Years of Warner Bros.: Modern Blockbusters 5-Film 4K Collection (1990s–Today) with GoodFellas, Unforgiven, The Shawshank Redemption, Training Day, and Elvis (UK date 9/18).
All of this is building toward a massive 30-film Warner Bros. 100th Anniversary 4K Studio Collection box set on 9/18 in the UK (the US street date would presumably be 9/19), that will include 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968), Casablanca (1942), Citizen Kane (1941), Cool Hand Luke (1967), East of Eden (1955), The Maltese Falcon (1941), Rebel Without a Cause (1955), Rio Bravo (1959), Singin’ in the Rain (1952), The Wizard of Oz (1939), A Clockwork Orange (1971), Batman (1989), Beetlejuice (1988), Blade Runner (1982), Enter the Dragon (1973), The Exorcist (1973), The Goonies (1985), Superman: The Movie (1978), The Shining (1980), Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory (1971), A Star is Born (2018), Argo (2012), Elvis (2022), Goodfellas (1990), It (2017), Mad Max: Fury Road (2015), The Matrix (1999), The Shawshank Redemption (1994), Training Day (2001), and Unforgiven (1992). You’ll also get a 8 pins featuring the different WB logo over time, a 32-page booklet and other premium extras. Here’s what the box will look like...
This, by the way, confirms that Howard Hawks’ Rio Bravo (1959) is coming to 4K Ultra HD from Warner Bros. this year, which we believe is one of the final titles in their 2023 4K catalog slate that had yet to be revealed.
Naturally, all of these titles have been added to our 4K Ultra HD Release List here at The Bits accordingly. And of course, we will post additional updates and official announcements as soon as they come in.
Stay tuned!
