Disney sets Zootopia 2 for 3/3, plus a note on Disney 4K catalog, For All Mankind: S2 on Blu-ray, Looney Tunes to TCM & more!

by

All right… we hope you guys all had a good weekend, inclement weather and other current events aside.

As you might expect, we have a few new disc reviews for you to enjoy today…

First, Stephen has taken a look at Tobe Hooper’s Lifeforce (1985) in 4K Ultra HD from Imprint Films.

Tim has offered his thoughts on Mark A.Z. Dippé’s Spawn (1997) in 4K from Arrow Video.

And Stuart has shared his take on Vincente Minnelli’s The Cobweb (1955) on Blu-ray from the Warner Archive Collection.

More reviews are definitely forthcoming, so be sure to keep checking back all week.

Now then, we’ve got a couple news items that need to be covered today, but we’re going to start with a new Disney announcement…

Walt Disney Home Entertainment has officially set the CG-animated Zootopia 2 (2025) for Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K Ultra HD release on 3/3, with the Digital release expected tomorrow on 1/27. [Read on here...]

The 4K release will arrive in Steelbook packaging. It will also be a 66 GB disc, with Dolby Vision HDR and audio in Dolby Atmos.

Extras will include 8 deleted scenes (What’s in the Box?, Where Are They Now?, Animal Hospital, Welcome to the Team, Desert Festival, Clawhauser Tracks Judy, A Plight at the Museum, and Clawhauser’s Family), 6 featurettes (The Zookeepers, A City of Stars, Everybody Can Draw!, Zoo-prising Secrets, Wilde Times in the Booth, and The Treat Trolley), and Shakira’s Zoo music video. You can see the cover artwork above left.

While we’re talking Disney this afternoon, I made a post on our social media feeds yesterday to address recent rumors regarding supposed Disney and 20th Century Studios 4K Ultra HD catalog releases that have been described as “coming soon” online.

Naturally, as these rumors began to circulate, I started getting a lot of questions from readers about the specific titles involved. Now… I already knew something about the status of these, but just to be sure I reached out to my industry sources to confirm.

And here’s what I learned: Disney currently has no plans for physical 4K disc releases of Planet of the Apes (1968), The Day the Earth Stood Still (1951), Cast Away (2000), and Armageddon (1998) in 2026 per my sources. Though keep in mind that all of these titles save for Armageddon are currently available in 4K Digital format from the usual sources.

Disney does have developing plans to release a few 4K catalog titles this year, but not nearly as many as rumors would suggest or fans would like. So it would be wise to take any such rumors you see on social media with a very big pile of salt.

Sorry to be the bearer of what will certainly be disappointing news for many of you, but the reality of the situation simply is what it is.

Warner Bros. 4K catalog titles, on the other hand, are totally a different story. (Hint: There are many great WBD 4K catalog titles coming this year, both from WBDHE themselves and also from multiple boutique labels.) So take heart, disc fans! We’ll be talking about this topic a lot in the coming weeks and months, rest assured.

Also today, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has officially announced a title that I first told you about here last week, which is that For All Mankind: Season Two is coming to Blu-ray Disc on 3/3. The 4-disc set will include all 10 episodes with 5.1 audio, along with audio commentary by the series creators on the season finale, 2x10 The Grey (if you know, you know). This could include producers Matt Wolpert, Ben Nedivi, and Ronald D. Moore. And here’s something else that’s good: Unlike Season One, this time the release is properly branded with the show’s actual logo. Here’s a look at that…

For All Mankind: Season Two (Blu-ray Disc)

In other news this afternoon, Lionsgate has revealed that Ric Roman Waugh’s Greenland 2: Migration (2025) is coming to premium 4K Digital and VOD tomorrow (1/27). A physical media release announcement will follow in the weeks ahead.

Speaking of Lionsgate, readers have also been asking us if the studio will be releasing Quentin Tarantino’s Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair on Blu-ray and 4K Ultra HD anytime soon (the extended film experience debuted in theaters back in December). The answer to that question is yes, and the street date is TBA. So stay tuned for more information.

Kino Lorber Studio Classics has just set Alvin Rakoff’s Death Ship (1980) for 4K Ultra HD release on 4/6. They’ve also announced George A. Romero’s Bruiser (2000) on 4K UHD as “coming soon.”

Online retailers are now taking pre-orders on the 4K and Blu-ray release of Christophe Gans’ Return to Silent Hill (2026) from Cinedigm. The street date is TBA.

And Criterion has just revealed that Hlynur Pálmason’s Joan of Arc (2025) is now available for streaming on The Criterion Channel.

In wider industry news, Warner Bros. Discovery has announced that TCM is now the official TV home of the Looney Tunes animated catalog! Per The Hollywood Reporter, the two companies have apparently made a 6-year deal to bring the animated shorts to TCM (they were formerly available on HBO Max), starting with the first batch of 45 shorts (featuring Bugs Bunny) in February. Here’s the link to read more.

And finally today, the legendary film composer John Williams—who will celebrate his 94th birthday in a couple of weeks (on 2/8)—made an appearance on stage over the weekend at a performance by the Boston Symphony Orchestra! Suffice it to say that this man deserves every bit of the love and adoration he gets everywhere he goes. You can read more here.

That’s all for now! Stay tuned…
